Interesting catch
Last night I baited a bankline with a hand-sized blue gill on a big treble hook. This morning I went out to check it and there was a 7 inch channel cat on the line. I left him alone because I figured if it could swallow a six inch long blue gill, I don't want any part of it.

RE: Interesting catch
The only thing that I can figure is that something bigger tore the blue gill off, but left enough meat on the hook to attract the little channel. I thought for a minute that folks in my neighborhood might have played a trick on me, but they are not that bright or innovative.

Don't jump to any conclusions. It's like I tell a waiter when
they look at me in surprise after I order, "I may be little, but
I CAN EAT!!" Your initial fear could be warranted.
Be scareful.

RE: Interesting catch
Caught a 3 pound channel on the bankpole two days ago. I worked up the nerve to take off the little channel. It is now baited with a six inch chunk of cut bait. I'm hoping for a big flathead or a snapping turtle tomorrow morning. But the way things are going, there will be a 5 inch chub on there when i check it.

Yep, its wishful thinking in terms of catching a flathead on cut bait although it happens sometimes. The bait was still there this morning which is wild since the river is full of snapping and softshell turtles this time of the year. This evening, I may switch back to live bait.
