Default Shocking fish question....

In another forum a few guys were saying that shocking the water to make fish come to the surface was impossible. As far as I know it is VERY possible to do this. They were also saying that you can't be in the water at the same time.

Now I thought that both of these were possible and illegal, but someone tell me if I'm wrong.

I have personally seen the WDNR do this, Worked fine, had a floatable sled with generator and to long prods that they move around in water, fish float up they net em, Tag then set em on there way, And yes you the shocker can be in the water....Must have waders and NOT BREATHABLE WADERS, as that the current can go into them they said. He found it out the hard way

Yeah I just saw a program on TV about them tagging fish using a similar method. Worked great.

Our game department shocksfrequently. I heard (don't know if it's true) Maryland was shocking in Mattowoman creek off the Potomac and raised ahuge largemouth, a guy was in the area when it happened and fished the stretch of bank until he caught it turned out to be the state record.

They do that every year at some of the local muskie lakes here in Indiana.

Some people do it using the old hand crank telephones. Dynamite is better, but louder[:@]

I dunno. My knowledge of this topic is based on listening to river rats in the family that were doing it back in the 1950s. I'll have to make a call to Louisiana to check.
