Default RE: how to use tubes

well, almost every time i use them, I'm rigging them Texas style. Start with a good hook. For 3" tubes, go with a 1/0 or 2/0 hook. for 4", a 2/0 or a 3/0 will do it. Brand and model of hook:Stick with wide gap hooks. Either Gamakatsu EWG hooks, Owner Wide Gap Plus, or Diachii Fat Gap hooks. Theyre built for tubes. For bullet weights, i generally go 1/8th oz or 3/16 oz, though i will go up to 3/8 oz if im flippin them or down to 1/16th if i want a slow sink rate. You can fish them however you like, as theres no correct way to fish them. Pump them through the water column, jig them, swim them, jerk them, crawl them, it all works. Just give the fish what he wants. When texas rigging with most gear, i let the hook ride on the backside of the tube because it may be tough to get penatration through a thicker tube. If im not Texas rigging, i use a teardrop shaped jig with an exposed hook in the tube. I usually do this for fishing deep structure smallmouth where there isn't alot of weeds or wood to snag up on.
