.300 WSM 700 REMINGTON Opportunty
I have located a .300 RUM Short mag 700 Remington. At clearance price of $449.00 brand new. Because I currently own a 700 Rem 270 I really am accustomed to the feel of the rifle so would prefer the 700 over the Tiki. So to give me more bullet options I am considering having the rifle rechambered to a .300 WSM at Ahlman's for around $75.00. Any thoughts on this. The RUM Short mag is so limited on bullet and load choices. Thanks

First, I don't think you're limited on loads unless you're not a reloader. I'm not sure I followed you. Second, why would you consider rechambering a .270 to the .300 RSUM? I would say buy the new Rem and enjoy!

I think what he means is that he's found a deal on a .300 SAUM, but he wants to rechamber it to .300 WSM to have a greater variety of factory ammo options. I would suggest one of two options...rechamber the rifle, or better yet, if you're going to have your gunsmith rechamber it, why not just rebarrel it? Then you'd have the .300 WSM chambering AND a match grade barrel to boot. Might as well blueprint and true up the action while you've got the barrel off too.
Option 2 is to stick with the .300 SAUM and use the $75 you'd have spent rechambering the rifle as a start toward a handloading setup. Handloading will pay off more in the long run that a rechambering will, IMO.
