I like my .223 it works and cheap to shoot, but the 22-250 is good,as well is the 220 swift and the 243.

A vote for the 223 for yote.

It will do the job past 300 yds

I use the 243 win by my choice , I own all three calibers but like the bullet selection I get in the 243 .

Have you looked into a 204 Ruger? Its great, it realy does have laser like trajectory. Bullets are expensive but if you reload its not that bad. If your not looking on spending to much on ammo go with the 223. And have you looked into 223 WSSM?

You just have to face it -- there are a lot of great calibers! If you save pelts, You'll want to consider damage -- smaller = better. The .17 Rem will work. The .17 hmr is a little too weak for lang range shots.

You'll want rounds that won't exit, it you can help it. Head and chest shots are preferable.

If you don't want to save pelts the .243 ballistics are better. .223 is by far the economical choice. All are capable of a level of accuracy which will place all fault on the shooter. With that said, the .243 will be shot better in a breeze 10 times out of 10.
Iyou DO want pelts. The .223 is very capable out to 300 or so, but the 22-250 will smack 'em alittle farther and alot harder! 22-250 has a bad reputation for barrel life, but only groundhog/high, high, high volume shooters will notice this.

I mainly use my 223 but I also like the 243 Win with 55 grain ballistic tips for those long shots.
