7mm08 is becoming one of the favorite deer loads in the south
Indeed it is. A lot of peoples initial exposure to this caliber is when they buy one for their wife or kid because of it's low recoil but after they see how well it performs on whitetails it starts finding its way into their truck even when the wife and kids aren't along. I realized a long time ago that dead is dead and a 300 magnum doesn't kill deer any deader than a 7mm-08.

The .260 does every thing the 7mm-08 does and it does it with bullets that weigh 20 grains less, so the recoil is lower. My .250 likes the 129 Hornady so well I've forgottin all about the other bullets, now I call that versatility.

Gentlemen, I too opted for the 7-08 and I am very satistied with it. The .260 did come in a strong 2nd. It is an interesting cartridge and I believe as most of you that either would perform well on deer out to 300 yds and perhaps a little beyond. Also, for similar ballistic characteristics, you may want to check the used racks for a .257 or 7x57. If yardages were consistantly 250 yds and over however, I would probably opt for a .270 or 7mm mag for deer.

I have a .260 and shoot 120gr through it. A very nice Deer round.

JMO. . .I think you would be very pleased with it out at some of those longers ranges, shoots pretty flat. Still has enough energy when it gets there to make a quick clean kill. However you will not find these rounds just anyplace.

I have to agree with slamfire.I like the 260. Mine also shoots the 129gr hornady the best.

i prefer the 7mm-08 over the .280 unless your planning on using the 175 grain bullets
