Picked up a Weatherby Vanguard for a pretty good price a month ago. They are very accurate and usually a better deal than the remington. I'd check it out. Also it's hard to beat the value of a savage.

A lot depends on what you want ref. wood stock, synthetic, blued or stainless, bolt action or other, etc.?
Probably one of the better "deals" available is the Remington Model 700 ADL Synthetic.
It's available in 270Win.
The one I like, and own, is the Remington 700 Mountain Rifle LSS - stainless steel with
laminated stock. Lightweight, and very accurate.

Just bought a Savage 110 LH, 270cal. package for my son last week. Paid a little over $400 for it. Sighted it in using the new managed recoil shells and he shot his first deer on Saturday.

Here's a deal on Gunbroker that I'd bid on if I weren't left-handed:

I think it's hard to go wrong with a Savage, regardless of price. (It won't win any beauty contests, though.)

I've been looking at a Weatherby Vanguard for a while but since my Remington 710's .270 has been so reliable and accurate I can't justify the money for having two .270's right now. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the rifles mentioned in this post so far. So, I'd sugjest you go look at 'em handle 'em a bit a see what appeals to you in looks, feel, function and price. My 710 shoots sub MOA @ 100yrds better than half the time and has a 60 deg throw on the bolt. It's never jammed and been through -6 degree temps to heavy rain. But there are a lot of people out there that for one reason or another hate my gun (probably a lot of the guys I hunt with since I've taken more deer with it in the past three years than thay have with anything else...hehe). I'm certainly not saying this is the gun for you, I just wanted to point out that the price tag shouldn't be your only guide. Pick what you like and what fits you and your budget, those hogs you'll be hunting won't care whether you killed 'em with a Remington, a Savage, a Weatherby, or whatever!

Winchester M 70 in 30.06 cost me $400 even with a cheap scope. It was the same price for any caliber. It's a nice gun. I got the syn stock on mine but it's put together pretty well from what i can see. Also check out Savage. slightly less money and very accurate.

you can prob. get a winchester mod. 70 featherweight for around 400 or just a bit more. great guns the only thing i don't like about them is their safty's. i really like the 3 position safty just not where it is located or the shape of the safty.
also you can't go wrong with a savage or remington mod 7 or 700
