I'd lean towards the Tikka but I am somewhat biased. I've got a great Sako and the Tikkas are made there also (kinda like the same only different). However, with that being said, I've heard many great reviews on Howas. I expect either would be fine. Pick the one that fits and feels the best to you.

You probably get a better made gun from Tikka. Sako and Tikka's actions are one of the smoothest and they both have hand crowned barrels. I also read a review on a howa in the .223 and it was posting over 1MOA at 100yrds. The Sako's garuntee un 1 MOA right out of the box, i think the same applies to the Tikka's since Tikka's are made by Sako.

Howa makes the Weatherby Vanguard. If you buy the Howa with the Vanguard name you receive an accuracy guarantee of 1.5" at 100 yards. The Vanguard should be $100-150 cheaper than the Tikka. Use the money you save to invest in the best quality scope you can afford.

I really don't like the fact that Tikka has a one size fits all action. What is the point of shooting a short action cartridge like the 243 Win though a long action rifle? It just doesn't make sense.

I have their catalogue and they have info on the back, i'm not sure iftheir talking about the mag size or actions size. This is a new catalogue.

It goes like this

Action/Magazine

T3/short - .17rem, .222rem, .223rem
T3/Medium - .22-250rem, .243win, 7mm-08rem, .308win,
T3/Short Mag - .270wsm, .300wsm,
T3/Long - .25-06rem, 6.5x55 SE, .270win, 7x64, .30-06, 9.3x62
T3/Mag - 7mm rem mag, 300 win mag, .338 win mag

Are they just talking about magazine size or capacity or do they mean action size?

If they have more than one action length then they just started doing it recently. I looked at a 270WSM the other day and it was a long action.
