.270 has plenty of power ot get the job done. if you go WSSM its just a waste of money IMO, the WSM is good enough.

The 270 is a fine caliber for deer, as a personal favorite I use 7mm rem. mag. since we shot a lot of long distance shots here in South Texas/North Mexico.

Just have in mind recoil before you buy.

Whatever you buy, I hope you like it a lot!!!

The .270Win and .270WSM are great for any deer. My only complaint with 270 (I have carried an older model Win.M70 in .270Win. for many years), is that you are limited to lighter bullets. Before you buy the .270, you may want to look at the 7mmMags. With 7mm, you can go to a heavier bullet that will be much more suited to bigger deer type game, like elk and moose. Sure, people will respond that they kill elk with the .270, that is true, but the edge goes to the 7mm or larger calibers, when you are after elk or moose. If you get one rifle that is suitable for SC deer and later get to go after elk or moose, with the 7mmMag, you will be ready.

the 270 is a great round and for deer it is all you will ever need. if you think you may hunt something larger in the near future and want to use this rifle i would look into the 280 because of the larger range of bullet weights

i use a 243 deer are not tuff animals to kill and i don't take shots over 200 yards so this is all that i need and it is great.

i have a 270 and a 243 my dad uses the 270 and i use the 243. i have found that when you shoot deer they do not care when they die if it is a 243 or 270 that did them in.

however there are plenty more good calibers out there for deer.
257,25-06,7mm08,260,308,30-06 and so on. you don't need any mag. caliber to kill any deer

my personal choice as an outstanding outfit would be a remington model 7 SS in 243,7mm08 or 308 with a leaupold rifleman 3-9x40

check out the 7mm-08.. i just bought a gun in the caliber and it's quickly becoming my favorite. To me it's almost the perfect caliber for deer.

You can look for a better deer rifle than the 270 and 280 but you won't find any.

the rifles mention all are great deer rifles !! It of course depends on your hunting situation.
I love to carry the ol 30-30 in the woods ! my hunt area dictates shots will be under
100 yards. the rifle is one of the if not THE best for that scenario. Next month I will
take the same 30-30 with the same 170 grn bullets(currently trying to work up a Nosler part load) and go out after Elk with it.....Yes
I know it is wrong and much too small a caliber, cause the elk have thru evolution, developed
a thicker skin than what they had 70 years ago. But luckily in my area, the Elk are of the
old variety and out to 125 yards, in the Pacific Rain forest, the 30-30 will bring down ANY Elk.
mine has taken 4 out of 5 elk when I took it out. the only reason I didn't get Number 5
was because I only saw cows and spikes that year and it was (is) a 3 point area.
Good luck this year gentlemen/ladies.

I'm a strong believer in the 270 Win Cartridge.I've dropped several deer with my 270.Before dropping your money on the Winchester check out a Ruger M-77.Great rifle at a reasonable price.. I might also add welcome to the forum

The 270 is probably THE perfect deer rifle(availability of ammo, effectiveness, ect...). If you ever want to go after something bigger, say elk or moose the 7mags, 30-06, 300win mag would be better if your going to do BOTH at some point. The 300win mag class shouldnt bother you for recoil if you shopot a 12gauge frequntly. If elk and bigger game aren't in the picture there dozens of great deer calibers, 243, 6mm, 250savage, 257roberts, 25-06, 270, 270wsm, 7mm08, 280, 284, ect..good luck
