RE: Stoeger 2000 or Beretta 390
Beretta 390 is a great choice, very little negative feedback, that I have seen. I shoot 391s and Xtremas, both are excellent performers.
On the waterfowl bbs I have seen more questions on Stoegers regarding problems (although Stoeger is owned by Beretta).
In that price range another consideration is the Beretta Pintail ($500), shoots 3" shells and is based on the recoil operated Benelli design. You may want to consider a Baikal auto for $350, they are the best dollar value.

My battle hardened 390 keeps on shooting like there's no tomorrow.
IT HAS NEVER JAMMED IN 5 YEARS!...And that's shooting it without cleaning too sometimes between hunts!
