Default Best whitetail rifle for $500-700?

I'm sure there are a hundred thread like this already in existence, but I'm in a bit of a time crunch and don't really have time to research properly. I prefer a .270 caliber.

The Ruger M77 is a well designed rifle for a fair price made in the USA!

Clyde--A Ruger is a fine gun. If you want to save a few dollars, you can get a Marlin X7 stainless for less then $400. They can be had in 270, 30-06(my choise), 25-06, 308 and maybe a few more. They are very accurate, come with a synthetic stock, swivel bases and a scope rail. In an article one of the outdoor magazines had a year or so ago, they tested the X7 against the other major brands for accuracy. The others were good, the X7 was outstanding. Check them out.

I love my 270 and 270WSM....the 270 is an older Remington 700 BDL and is a great shooter. The 270WSM is a newer Tikka T3 Lite and is also a real nice shooter. Both have taken a fair number of whitetail, blacktail and Mullies and even a few Yote's! The 270 is one of my all-time favorite calibers! Remington, Tikka, Ruger, Winchester, Browning...they all make good rifles...best to spend some time handling a few and find one that feels comfortable in your hands...fit and comfort is more important than brand, as most of them will do the job well. Think about what options you want: adjustable trigger, detachable magazine, stainless or blued barrel, synthetic or wood stock...bolt, lever, single shot, auto-loader, pump action...once you make those decisions it will help you narrow your options.

Tikka T3 lite in .270 all day, every day. One of the best shooters I've ever owned.

In your price range you have many to choose from which are all good. Some examples are Savage 116, 111, Tikka T3, Marlin X7, Ruger 77.
Also don't be afraid to check out the used racks. Some people trade their rifles in just to get a new one or others need the cash. You can get some great deals on some fine rifles. Your best bet is to go to a gun shop and see what one feels good in your hands and you are comfortable with. BTW - the .270 Win is a fine choice for whitetails.

My vote is for Savage. One of the most incredible, most wickedly accurate, rifles around. I mean, straight out of the box accurate!

Im surprised no one suggested the Weatherby Vanguard 2. Dont own one, but was eyeing them at the store and they are quite nicely built, but unfortunately out of my price range at the time.
