I've owned both, and I like the Accu-Trigger better. Which is not to say the Tikka trigger isn't a very nice hunting trigger.

Asthetically, the Remington wins hands down, even against the new Savage Classic series. The Accutrigger is very good and with the turn of a single screw it can be adjusted down to what I consider to be nearly the perfect hunting trigger (2-2.5 lbs, zero perceptible creep and overtravel with a crisp break). The "old" Remington trigger just plain sucked as adjusted from the factory, but the redeeming quality was that it was fully adjustible, and with a small bit of work at home (for the knowledgeable and mechanically inclined), or an inexpensive trip the your gunsmith, it could be made into another excellent trigger. The new Remington X-Mark Pro trigger is acceptable out of the box. Not great, but not pure crap like an M77 lawyer trigger. It has the advantage of already having precision ground and polished sear surfaces, and is user adjustable for pull weight. With a pull weight adjustment, the trigger feels every bit as good as a reworked "old style" Rem trigger, but there is no need for a gunsmith (unless you're a bumbling idiot with hand tools like my brother-in-law [:@]).

As to accuracy, I think that Savage has a good REPUTATION for OOB accuracy, but that is not to say that they are always better than Remingtons. I've owned three M700's (an ADL in .243 Win, a VLS in .22-250 Rem, both with the "old" trigger, and a LSS Limited in .257 Wby with the X-Mark Pro) and a Savage 114 .30-06 with Accu-trigger. I also have a Savage 10ML-II with Accu-trigger. Both Savages shoot better than the ADL ever did with handloads (including the ML), but the LSS Limited and the VLS outshot the Savages all day long. I will also say that, unless TRUE long range hunting is your bag (which I consider anything past 300 yards), all these rifles have (or had) what could be considered better than acceptable accuracy for big game hunting, shooting in the sub-2 MOA range. I'm just more picky about accuracy than what is strictly necessary for a practical big game rifle under normal circumstances.

well guys i just got from cabelas and i looked at a savage with a accu stock accu trigger and a reminton 700 spss. i came home with the remington. sorry savage guys but there guns look horrible. they might shoot but i want a gun that when i look at it i cam smile.oh and as far as accurate i just sighted it in and at 100 yards. i shot a 5 shot group and there is no paper touchinh between the holes. thats factory winchester power points too. oh and my cousins savage it's in the shop gettin a some new part put in the bolt for the 2nd time. also when i went to cabelas i said i would only buy a savage or a ruger and after holdin them i changed my mind very fast. the ruger barrel on the new hakeye is so thin is horrible. and the savage felt bad and looked worse. say what you want but the remington that i have shoots great

oh and i forget to mention that my rem. has a trigger that you can adjust externaly and one thing i really liked was it has a very very shot length of pull.

I just made that decision. I had a 110E that has been around for quite some time. The clip spring was compressed to the point that it would barely feed the bullets into the chamber, the bore was about 50%, stock all beat up (ugly stock anyhow) and showed signs of wear. So, I got $150 trade for it and put that towards a NIB Rem. 700 in 30.06. The guy at the gun shop told me that the savage should be just fine but after I gave him the history on the 110, he allowed me to get the 700. He did try to discourage me at first. He said nothing is better out of the box than a savage but the remington is a fine rifle itself. This is my first 700 and I have not shot it yet. I am going to load up a few light rounds to test it with and build from there. OH! AND, boy is she pretty. Makes my savage look like ugly betty. I mounted a 4X12 on it and range day is monday. I will keep you posted as to the results from 50yds out to 300yds.

Good choice. You can't go wrong with either.

I have a Savage 116 in.30-06 with Accustock, Accutrigger, and stainless steel barrel/action. Yes, it's not a pretty gun (being black synthetic), but I plan on getting the stock dipped in Realtree AP for $90 to make it look sweet (http://www.dynamicfinishes.com/index.html).

My Savage suits me just fine, but I would be just as happy with a 700. It's what you do with it that counts.

The advantage you have [with the 700] is the plethora of after market accessories that exist for the 700. It's getting better for Savage, but clearly there are more Remington 700 owners driving demand.

You may need to get a trigger job though; there has been some dissatisfaction with the X-Mark Pro triggers, but nothing a good gunsmith can't fix. Good luck.
