RE: mossberg rifles
i bought the mossberg atr in 30-06 as soon as it hit the shelf in my local wal mart. For the last 4 years it has proven itself over and over again. With handloads, i touch bullet holes at 100 yrds..the action is butter smooth and I have never had feeding issues..the stock is somewhat spartan but i have had no problems with its design affecting accuracy, but cosmetically it is crap...the molded in trigger guard and sling swivels are another area of concern..i had to install a sling swivel this year due to the front molded one breaking, and the pistol grip cap busted out as well, i think the trigger guard will probably be next to go...other than the fact that no one make an aftermarket stock for these, they are an all around great gun for hunting on a budget, and when i missed with my rem 700 the year, the first thing i did was go home and get my atr...a doe was soon in the freezer..

I have a friend with one and he loves it. Most of the reviews are great but like you said they aren't fancy at all but they are good accurate solid guns. You will here of some malfunctions but that happens with every brand gun.
