The field test of this product was done on a new rifle, however I agree with you, in that I would like a pro (gunsmith) to tell me that they would "lap" the barrel, shoot it first, or that they knows the TUBBS product and it works well.

In terms of the trigger work, I thought I would just ask them to lower the pull to 2.5-3lbs as you suggest (cool?).

If you find someone who buys peltscan you give me the contact information?

The problem with fire-lapping is that some parts of the barrel don't need any work done to it. Where by hand lapping you can feel the rough spots and make the bore more uniform. Most likely it won' t need any work done to it.

Yep, 2.5-3 would be perfect.

Yep again, I will let you know about the pelts. I'm kinda doughting I will find any one in California, it would most likely be someone out of state.

The 7mm isn't a bad choice for the upper end but I favor the .270. Why use a magnum, pay magnum ammo prices, and take magnum recoild when you don't need to. The .270 is a great round and will go far beyonf 300 yards with plenty of power.

The .223 is probably your best choice I like the 204 but the 223 is far more accessable when it comes to ammunition.

Not sure what you mean by 'the big stuff'. If its only deer/black bear, the 270 would be fine, as would the 30-06. I love my 270 but the '06 would be a bit more versitile.
Being that you already have a 243 it will handle anything the 223 would so you choice of a 204 might be better.
sooooo - 204, 243, 30-06 and if you need to hunt really big critters, a 338, 375, or 416 would be just the ticket. Just my 2 cents.

If I was to start over and build a rifle battery, I'd start with an AR-15 in .223, and then a series of bolt actions in .308 based cases... a .243 Win., a 7mm-08 Rem., a .308 Win., and a .338 Fed. And, then maybe a .416 Rem. if I ever went to Africa for Big 5.

IMHO agun battery to cover everything in the world would consist of......

.22lr... fun, squirrels, rabbits, etc...
.223 Rem... varmints, predators, fun
30-06... everything from antelope to moose
over 40 cal rifle... dangerous game forboth NA and Africa (not the 444 marlin, 45-70, etc...)
12ga pump... birds, defensive weapon, etc...

After this it is just fill in to more specialized cartridges.

.22lr or 22centerfire... Mouse to coyotes. But sincce you already have a .243 you can cover mouse to deer equally effectively.

30-06... Antelope to moose.

.338 Win mag - 375 H&H... Moose to Grizzly.

Bigbulls,
Can't the 7MM handle the moose to grizz category.
I hear the recoil is +/-20 for the 7MM and +/-30 for the 338!
I was saving the 338 for the trip across the pond.

Now that you mentioned grizzley, I am going to say a .338 Win Mag. I don't think most guides would even take you with a 7mm rem mag. A muzzle break will take care of recoil.
