I have a Henry Golden boy .17hmr, I shot two .750 groups the last time I took it out. Also have a Savage, so far I can't get it to shoot like I want.
I tightened up the guard screws and remounted the scope but haven't tried it since. Always make sure your guard screws are snug, if they are loose it can cause a shift action to stock.

I haven't shot the .17 Marlin, but I do have a .22 LR Marlin that I'm not too happy with. I mean, it's a decent all-around gun, but I'm not sold on the "micro-grove" barrel. The accuracy I get is acceptable, but not outstanding. The best ammo I've found only shoots about 1.5" at 50 yards, which for me isn't too hot. My old, beat up Savage can shoot 3/4" groups or better at 50 yards all day long.

When groundhog hunting with my Savage, I always aimed for the head and rarely missed at ranges out to 75 yards or so. With the Marlin, I find myself aiming for the body at anything past 40 yards because I'm not confident of a head shot.

well, i gotta agree that is savage was desired then that should have been purchased. I'm very loyal to Marlin...infact thats the only centerfire i own and with the exception of one Winchester, the only rimfire. My 917V can shoot thumbtacks down at 65yards w/ ease, action is nice. I was open at the beginning too, considered the Savage. I looked at the Savage models though and they seemed of far less quality when compared to the other brands. I know they seem to be picky on ammo. Me and my buddies 917s only want fed Fed. V-max and nothing else. However I do plan on aHenry .17 sometime next year since Marlin has no talk of a lever .17.
