More Kudos for Savage
I recently entered a post about a Savage 11FYCAK I got for my grandson. Well, working up a load for it, I shot10 different load combinations. I found one the rilfe likes - likes alot. The load is 38 gr of IMR4895 behind a Winchester 150 gr Power Point bullet and CCI large rifle primers. Other powders used were IMR4350, RL-19, IMR4064, and Varget. Other bullets I used were Hornady 139 gr BTSPs, and 154 gr. SP, andNosler 140 gr BT.
Before this load, the groups were measuring from 1" to just over 1.5" C to C. This load shot 2 consecutive groups of 0.41" and 0.29" C to C.
Hopefully the pic will upload.

Very nice! Try some 120gr Barnes TSXs in it. My Thompson puts 'em into a lil ragged hole. With my 140gr BT zero (1.5" high at 100), the 120gr bullets shot almost 6" high. I think they are gonna reach out an touch some critters this fall

I might give them a try. I may pick them up on my next trip to Cabelas. The only decision I have to make is "are the TSX bullets worth the price". I will be using this rifle for deer and these bullets are more than adequate. If I were to use it for elk, I may try the TSX.

I hear ya about the price thing. My Browning 7mag, and my Thompson just love the TSXs so I practice with Hornady SSTs and Ballistic Tips, then before season I sight in with my TSXs and hunt with 'em. After load development I might only shoot 10 of them a year.

Thanks guys. As for the Hornady SSTs - I've tried them in 7mm and 30 cal in 4 different rifles and couldn't get them to shoot. I don't know what it is with them. I have a few rifles that just love the old Interlocks but jus twill not shoot the SSTs.

I couldn't get the SSTs to shoot well out of my 7-08 as well. I have only tried one load combination so far, but it was a bust for sure. I'm not overly fond of their on-game performance anyways.
That is a picture of an SST recovered from the deer pictured below. The shot was 225 yards broadside, deer stood straight up in the air and went right over backwards sticking its antlers thru the snow and into the ground. They kill well for me, but don't retain much weight. I have to find that bullet and weigh it again, but it was a 139gr SST and I think its down below 80grains. Now.
The bullet was found behind the opposite shoulder while caping the buck out. If you look close you can see the mud stuck to the bucks left G2 where it stuck in the ground.
