Default SW40GVE?

Started out looking for a .22 pistol like the buckmark, but found something different. A SW40GVE pistol. Any opinions on this gun? I'm a novice when it comes to handguns and don't have anything to compare it to. It felt comfortable, that's all I can say about it. I can get it for $275. Good deal? More importantly, good gun?

Does it look something like mine? It's a S&W 40VE. It shoots OK. Every once in a while I have one not feed right and it hangs up but for the most part I'm happy with it. The grip is a slip over finger grove, I think made by Hogue. I paid $325 new if I remember right.

I had one. It was a good gun. The trigger is a little stiff on them is the only complaint i have about it. I had the SW40VE. I would recomend the SW9VE jsut for the price of ammo but id rather ahve the 40 in any self defense problems i run into.

I shot 1 the other day and other than it being ugly and having a horribly heavy trigger pull,it shot ok. I think $275 is a bit steep for it.

this would be my recommendation in a 40.

If you're going with a 22lr I'd stick to a Buckmark or Ruger variant. The only S&W 22 lr IMHO worth the money are the Model 41 and the 617 style revolvers.

Thanks for the feedback. I talked the guy down to $260 and bought it. Still haven't had a chance to shoot it because of the weather. Looking forward to it later this week.

I have what I think is essentiallythat same pistol in 9mm (the SW9VE), picked it up a few weeks ago for about 280 give or take some tax. I like it so far. I haven't had any trouble out of it other than maybe 3 times when I pulled the slide back to load the first round it would get about halfway in the chamber and stick. I'm just blaming it on the gun being new, especially since it hasn't happened at all the last two times I had it out. Yeah the trigger is stiff but seeing as how that's the safety I'm not gonna whine about it. Plus since mine is a self defense weapon pretty muchI don't think I'm gonna notice if the poo poo starts flying and with some practice you can get used to it.

Here's a "rapid" fire group I got at 5 yards on a 3" target just testing it out:

I have the SW9VE and so far I have pumped around 1000 rounds through it without a single jam, slide issue or anything. Shoots good and has a nice feel to it. If you want to spend a bit more cash go for the M&P or the SW99 series, better gun but costs more.

I have one just like it. It is worth the $260 you paid for it. The only complaint I have is the excessively heavy trigger. My gun is very accurate with american eagle 165 gr. loads. If you can keep concentration while squeezing the trigger you can be accurate. Fast fire and any accuracy is hard to maintain with the length & weight of the trigger pull. For $260 I don't think you can expect much more.

The reply showing the Glock is true but it runs nearly twice the money.
