Looking for a .45

RE: Looking for a .45
If you are going to get a .45ACP, might as well make it a 1911, if you are going to shoot.45ACP a lot you will buy a 1911 down the road anyhow so you might as well do it right the first time and buy a 1911.The 1911 is the Chevy Small Block of handguns- there is a vast array of aftermarket parts for them and you can modify them to do any specialized purpose that you can dream up. I'd reccomend a springfield milspec as an entry level pistol, or a Springfield Loaded or a kimber as a midlevel pistol, Ed Brown, Les Baer or Valtro if you have some big $$$$s to spend

RE: Looking for a .45
I am partial to Ruger's single action 45 Colt ("Long Colt") in a 4 &5/8" barrel for informal target and it will also handle heavier pressure rounds if you need to. Strong, safe, & won't break the budget. It was a nice combo of weight, balance and handling for me. I have had trigger work done on all my Rugers; I am picky there. I would pick up the models and see how they feel to you, since they also have Bisley and Vaquero models available. Single action Rugers behave well in the hand. Even my daughters have fired 240 grain 44 magnums without complaint.
