The 7mm-08, for animals up to about 500 lbs and insideof 300 yards or so,is possibly the best all around rifle caliber ever made. And because of the light recoil, we tend to shoot them verywell. Customer satisfaction factor: very high. Macho factor: fairly low.

However I like the stock of the Tikka but it doesn't have Accutrigger.
But it does have an adjustable trigger...

LOL If I wanted to be macho I'd get a 50BMG and a nose bleed every round. I like going to the range each week and shooting. With only 12 lbs of recoil I can shoot almost all day and not have any pain or flench. As you say
A man has got to know his limitations . . . . .
Not trying to step on toes here but I think a lot of hunters have rifles they can't truely handle.

The 7-08 is getting more and more popular all the time. I sold more 7-08s this past season in the gunstore than I did .270s and 30-06's COMBINED. That is really saying something. A close third (the '06 was second) was believe it or not the .260, which is a kissing cousin of the 7-08. I dare say that the 7-08 is the .270 of the new millenium.

Currently, if you are a handloader, there isn't much you can't do with a 7-08. You can load everything from 100gr to 175gr.

The pain for the rest of y'all who don't handload, is that you have one 120gr and one 150 gr and everything else is 140. But, as the round gains popularity, I suspect you will start to see a wider variety. I wouldn't be suprised if Federal starts loading TSX bullets in 7-08 soon. Perhaps they will also load 120s in Noslers or in those TSX.

I am handloading both 120 and 140 TSX bullets for my guns. They are bad medicine on game!

If I were shopping I'd be inclined to 308 for reasons of ammo availability. I've not owned/shot a 7mm-08, so pardon me for asking... but what advantages does it have over a .308?

Not much really. I have both, and would grap either and do for deer hunting. But I like being able to shoot 180gr bullets at elk and blackbear.

From what I can see on the Federal ballistcs chart, other than more bullet grain choices and ammo availability, the 7mm08 offers basically the same ballistics with considerable less recoil. The ammo availability is my only hang up. I am sold on the caliber.

There is not much difference in recoil between a 7mm-08 and a .308. I own a remington Model 7 in 7mm-08, and that is usually the first gun I grab come rifle season. It is slightly flatter shooting than the .308. It is a solid deer round to 400 yards. I have been shooting this particular gun for about 14 years, and have taken many deer with it. In a small gun like the model 7, it is a very handy and deadly combination. I would never want anyone to hesitate using one for deer. It will do anything you ask of it, almost. My other guns I use that establish my point of reference are:

Ruger m77 compact - stainless / laminate - .243 3 weeks old.

Ruger m77 stainless / synthetic - .308 6 years old.

Browning A-bolt Medallion w/boss .270 14 years old.

Remington 7400 carbine blued / synthetic - 30-062 years old.

I would put the 7mm-08 up against any of them , in any normal hunting condition, and a few abnormal.

Go for it.

Stupid questin but.... How well would the 7mm-08 perform on say Hog or Black Bear (Not Big Ole' Alaskans mind you but your every day Georgia black bear). The reason I'm asking is because I just got a lead on a hunting club that has Bear and Hog. Will the 7mm-08 perform on these animals too or will I be running out and picking up another rifle for that?

What 2 rifles are you looking at? I don't know what you want to spend, but I would suggest looking at a Blaser R-93 Offroad (synthetic stock model). If I get a 7mm08, it will just be a barrel for my Blaser. I actually already have a used one located, but it is Canada. My gun dealings with Canadian have been less than ideal. If you have never handled a Blaser, you owe it to yourself (the triggers are amazing). I have had to sell several guns to afford my "Blaser addiction", but it is worth it to me.
where can i find out some information on these blaser rifles?
