Is the recoil substatually more? Just curious.
You can also check this link for recoil. It will give an idea... www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm

Very few cartridges deliver more enery with as little recoil as the 7mm-08. It very effecient. 12lbs of recoil cmpared to 19 for the 7 Mag. About 35 percent less recoil. but just 16 percent less energy. My shoulder loves the difference.

I have killed 10 deer in the last 2 seasons with my 7-08 at ranges of 7-325 yards. Very sweet round. I have a model 700adl for the 7-08...I have a 7mag weatherby and the difference in recoil is VERY noticeable..that 7mag has a different kind of kick to it...very sharp. 7-08 has just a little thump..almost unnoticeable. Since the 7-08 is based off the 308 the inherent accuracy will almost always be dandy.

I don't know anything about the Ruger MKII's as I've never owned or even shot one, but I've got a Rem 700 Mtn LSS and a Rem 7600 both in 7mm-08.

Love the 7mm-08!! It's very easy on the shoulder which makes it a pleasure to practice with at the range. There is a good selection of factory fodder available and if you reload there are a lot of 7mm bullets to choose from. Although I've only shot whitetails with the Mtn LSS (just got the 7600 & havent shot it yet), folks say the 7mm-08 is good for up to Elk and I've got a dandy (spelled very accurate) coyote load worked up using 100 Grn Sierr HP's.

Great round in my opinion!

The 7mm-08 is an excellent round, one of the best, IMHO.

7mm-08 is a like a .308, just a little less.

I have to echo trailers' comments. I too used the 7 Mag for years, but now have fallen in love with the 7-08 due to it's reduced recoil, and the accuracy I've been able to achieve with it through handloads. Sweet little gun.
