Just to make it absolutely clear... You can use .38 Special cartridges in a .357 Magnum revolver, but you cannot use .357 Magnum cartridges in a .38 Special revolver.

I have owned three different .357's, a S&W Model 19, a Dan Wesson Model 15-6VH and a Ruger SP101. All are excellent quality firearms.

I will also add that some 357's will shoot 9mm rounds as well, but not all so don't go trying to do it unless your gun states it has that feature.

Good point about not using a .357 in a .38, never thought about thinking it would be reversable.

Paul, back in 1967 I bought a Ruger "BlackHawk" .357mag at K-Mart that came with an extra cylinder in .30 Carbine. I think it was $115 or $119.

If you want a great shooter and don't mind the extra barrel length, The Ruger GP-100 with a six inch barrelwill shoot groups at 100 yards that will rival a good rifle.

It is really going to depend on your primary purpose of the gun. The single action revolvers are great for cowboy action shooting, and hunting. The double action, is good for hunting too, as it can be used in the single action mode, with an easier trigger pull. The doubles are better suited for self defense purposes due "point-and-pull" speed of the double action.

Are you sure your not mistaken Reb- on those calibers?

.30 cal carbine is .308 diameter -&
38.-is 356- .357 Not even close in size.
I know ruger use
to make a blackhawk in .30 carbine tho.

Ido own a "blackhawk in 38/.357/9mm"
that comes with aextra
cylinder in 9mm luger.

Luckly most 38,s wont chamber the longer 357.mag rounds.

Gota second that those Gp 100,s are nice shooters & the sp 101,s to.
