Default rem. woodsmaster .243

my dad shot this gun for 25 years, just to have it stolen a few years back. Ive been trying to track one of these down, to surprise him with a christmas gift, but i have found that the .243 caliber is much harder to find than the .3006 and other more popular calibers. Anyone have any suggestions as to where i can find one of these guns, or how much i should be expecting to pay for this gun. I know the older the model gets, the harder it will be to find it, so i would like to get it within the next few years. help is greatly appreciated.

I'd say that if you're stuck on the 742, I'd watch the auction pages for one to come up. If you're not locked into a 742, why not look at the new 750, the replacement for the 7400. It comes in .243 and comes with a new gun warranty. They are virtually the same gun. I would think that would make your Dad pretty happy.

It's not the fact of having a nice gun or one to hunt with...because we have both now. I would like to get the exact gun he had, because of the sentimental value he had for this gun(it being the only deer rifle he's ever had). We have a .270 to hunt with, just would like this gun for collector's purposes i guess youd call it. Thnx for the help tho, ill keep my eye on the gun classifieds.

If you live in K,Y on sept. 23,24 there is the biggest gun show in north ameraca it will have 3000 tables it is in louisville. Last year they had at least 100 of that rifle I know because I got one of them for my son, the price was $400.00/ It was a 742 in .243cal.

There's a shop here in SW Va. that has a few also. My dad has had the same rifle in 30-06 for about 25yrs now. Its still in awesome shape and mom bought it for him before I was born. I growed up hunting with it once I broke away from the 303 british. Its never let him jam. He says it's jammed 4 times in 25yrs. That is amazing. Just a nice warm feeling rifle when you hold and shoot it. I know how you feel about the sentimental value also. He would die without that gun, seriously.

I don't have a e-mail address I found it in the shotgun news. the promoter is (Ron dickson 1-513-3574 ) . I live in S.W VA. it is a 3 hour drive to the show but it is worth it.
