I think the Savage is the best bang for your buck gun out there. I also like the safety which is a consideration for an inexperienced hunter. I dont think you will be very happy with the scope that comes in those combos however. I would consider buying the rifle a picking up a little bit better scope.

Ditto Scott comments
In addtion to the low quality (cheap) scope on the package rifle, the scope rings and bases are veryweak and just aren't up to the recoil of the 30-06.At a minimum,I would have the rings and bases changed. A set of better rings and bases are going tobe less than$50.

scopes (almost) never come with rings, look at weaver mounts or any other high quality brand, but theres no point in having a good scope if you cant keep it on your rifle

I've been looking at the Savages with the new Accutrigger and they are not the best looking rifle, but they shoot extremly accurate and do everything a hunter might need

What type of mounts should I be looking for if I want the option of using the rifles iron sights, for those up close and personal shots that doesn't require the use of the scope at the time ? Since this is all new to me, I am guessing maybe an elevated mount ?

I always use the scope even for up close shots. Just have the scope on low power, but if you want to be able to use the iron sights there are see through rings you can get. Look on cabela's web site or in almost any sports store like gander mountain and they should have them. I don't care for them though as it raises your scope up higher off the rifle. Just isn't comfortable for me.

Yes Yes Yes. You will not be dissapointed. After you get used to your gun save up and get a new scope for it and you will never put that gun down.
I personally would go with a leupold one piece base and rings. They will stand up to years of abuse.

I have been shooting for 12 years and hunting for 8. Although I am not an expert, I am and experienced hunter who takes gear seriously. My most recent rifle purchase? A Savage 110 in 30'06 with acutrigger. It has a cheap scope but good rings. I will probably upgrade to a docter optic 3x9x40 soon. But the rifle is great as most experienced hunters know. At least hunters who are interetsed in performance and accuracy over looks and brand name.
AS for your slection, I would buy it without the scope and mounts and do those yourself.
