Most of the firearms mentioned are fine guns I'm sure. I like mine - Anschutz 1450. Anschutz is famous for the match rimfires they make but they also make a line of fine sporter .22's. Now going on 20 years old for mine; thousands of rounds through it with no problems. Still is the same tack driver as when I purchased it. Accuracy, I believe, second to none.

The rifle verson of the 10/22 has a slimmer stock and a 20" barrel instead of a fat stock and 18.5" barrel (carbine). I think if I was going to get one it would probably be the new one.

I think the 1022 is better. Also check out the Thompson center .22 auto. Higher quality and better looks than the 1022. Better out of the box trigger and acuracy.
BTW if you want a bolt, you can't beat the CZ 452 lux for about 300 bones. I get .4" groups at 50 yards with hunting ammo

I have a 597 and i love it but the clips are the only down fall i can only get about 8 in and cyclingas apposed to the 10 shots they can hold but i love it to pieces other wise. The 10/22 is a good gun to but lately they have been having a bad run they just arent made the way they used to be. 100 yrds is getting pretty far for a .22 so if going to be hunting much at longer yards like you may consider a .22 mag or a .17 HMR or even a .22 hornet.

I'd have to say look at teh 10/22 or Marlin and to run from teh 597. Unless you like a lot of plastic in your firearm.I had a 597 that struggled to cycle teh less ecpensive ammo and when I took it apart to clean, was amazed at teh amount of plastic in the action. My Marlin and 10/22 are all good shoting guns that are easy to handle and fun to shoot.

Take a close look at the CZ 452 or 453. I just picked up a 453 American in 22LR Monday. Love the 453's single set trigger. Here are a couple of targets fromyesterdays first trip to the range. All groups are 5 shot groups.

At 25 Yds: White circles are 1/2" diameter.

At 50 Yds:

Keep in mind that this gun isn't even broken in yet. I'm sure groups will tighten up when I find the ammo it likes, the gun gets broken in a bit more and I get used to the gun and trigger.

This is without a doubt the most accurate "out of the box" rifle I've ever shot!!!

I've got a Rem 597 and I like it. I initially had issues with the magazines not feeding properly. I was lucky to get through one mag without a jam. However, the newer magazines (the ones with a circle around the 10) work great. The one thing I'm not real thrilled about is having to take the guide rods and springs (that the bolt slides on) out to clean the thing completely.

It's still a lot of fun to shoot. Going squirrel hunting this Sat with it for the first time.

Like Vapodog said earlier, the Marlin Model 60 is also a fine .22LR rifle. I have owned one since I was 14! My daughter now owns it, because, with this very same rifle, she outshot me on the range -with my very own boyhood rifle! [:-] So, it was only natural that I admit defeat, and ceremoniously pass down the rifle to her. Looking back, it was a very proud moment too!
