PSE Copperhead Crossbow
I am on a very small budget and was checking out the pse. it shows 17 inch bolts....me being new to cb i was wondering is the shorter bolts a problem or do i need to look for something that shoots 20-22 inch bolts? I normally hunt with a gun but the wma in my area of alabama only allows gun hunts about 5 times per year when archery season last the whole time oct 15 - jan 31.. so i figured on giving a cb a try but the wife will kill me is i go out and spend alot....

Most of the shops will buy shafts, 22" long. That price will be the price plus markup nomatter how long or short they are. Example is I sell at $50.00 a dozen that will be the price for 22" or 17". Parker is now making a new crossbow, let me get my book. Yes, it is called the Bushwacker and sells for only $299.95 let me know if you need more info on this or others. A few new companies coming out this year. Looking at all the prices I think that the mfgs are going to increase their pricing this year, due to sales.

I set a PSE up for a guy and was mildly impressed w/ it. He had 20" arrows, but huge bheadfs that needed to go as the were trying to steer the arrow from the front. I put some Slicks on his arrows but never weighed them.
I did find the dial-a-range feature to be wildly inaccurate as far as 10 yd intervals.
I had some 18" custom arrows made for another buddy to cheap to buy a range finder. I also had same 20" from same builder. The 18" were noticably less accurate, but I'm not sure if it was length or FOC.
There's a slew of entry level xbows coming out at the ATA this month, I'd wait and take a look at them for a little higher quality bow for near the same $. Good luck!

thanks for all the help, i recently had a horton yukon fall pretty much in my lap....it was used but just barely, seems to shoot very straight and accurate...after about two shots to get the peep sight dialed in it was putting groups together from about 25 yards.....so im gonna play with it some more, but im pretty pumped to get it ready for next season since this season is about over....thanks again
