depends on how fast your Bow is on single red dot also what type of scope ? multi lined or rifle duplex which offers 3 pt of aim marks mine is set for 10/20/30 yds.

RE: What would be better for a crossbow
I like the simplicity of the single red dot. I've got mine sighted in for 20 yards.Arrows hit 2" low at 30 yards and 10" low at 40 yards. I've got several spots marked with small piece of orange tape at 30 yards in a circle around my different stands so that I know where to hold the red dot on a deer, as happened to a doe at 35 yards last week. One of my hunting buddies, however, doesn't like the need to click the red dot to a brightness level based on the lighting conditions around the deer stand, to have to turn it on for it to work, or remember to turn it off before casing it up after using it, so he usesa multi-lined 4X scope. What it boils down to is be sure to shoot something you like and in which you have confidence. Tom

As one might expect...there are people that like scopes, there are people that like red dot sights!
What do "you" like? That is the question.
I've got all three on my (8 of'em) bows, single red dot, multiple red dot and with scopes.
So...find what you like..doesn't matter what others like.
