I found out about the sight through a private message, and of course signed up.
Web sites generate money, some for profit, some simply to maintain themselves. In this instance Christine stepped out and made us our own area to discuss things in and goes out of her way to make sure it runs smooth. To step in to her property and as a very first post defer people away is disrespectful, a lot of forums don't even allow that type of thread to run.
This has nothing to do with the existence of crossbownation, and is of course nothing against them, but pissing in someone else's pool isn't cool.
Yes, it would have been different if he were a member with more to share than an alternative place to go. The only thing this post had going for it was that it was in reference to crossbows, but it has the same feel as the ones that come from first time posters selling Ipods of cell phones.
Now the poster has 6 posts, most of which are insulting, none offer anything of substance.
His name used to sign up here is not on crossbownation either.
Try going to a small established store, walking in for the first time and announcing that a new store just opened up the road. It just isn't the right way to go about doing things, yes, it gets the point across but it lacks a certain amount of decency. Some people don't realize the importance of giving respect where respect is due, HNI deserves more than to have new members sign up for the sole purpose of recruiting new members to a new site.
Keep in mind that there is money involved here, I can't believe I am the only person who sees it like that.

two things first of all i tried to use this name on crossbownation and it didnt go through. Second a lot of you do use the same so you should have known I was also the same person that started it on AT. I did think about it before I did it here, so I let that go for couple of days. Many of you had already found out about it from there. So not sure what the problem is.

"no sure what the money involved comment means"

As a retailer, perhaps I can better explain that...

Crossbow Nation is a retailer. He is setting up and establishing a store front to sell crossbows. That is fine. From what I hear he is a nice guy and I wish him luck. However,Crossbow Nations forum has been built..and I quote "...to unite and support crossbow enthusiasts worldwide by offering a site dedicated to preserving and promoting the sport of crossbow hunting and shooting." That sounds great...a dedicated forum for just crossbows. Now here comes the clincher...go down a few lines and this pops up: "And finally a store where the finest crossbows and accessories can be purchased". That is the real deal here. The owners may genuinely be interested in furthering the sport (as am I ), but forums take time and money to build and maintain. That is why all of them either have banner adds on them (like this one and AT) or they are promoted by the manufacturers themselves (and the additional sales generated pay for the time). This site is no diferant than if I put up a forum on my website. Its primary reason is to generate sales. If not, the "...finally a store..." comment would not be there. For that matter, a store link would not be there at all. There would be adds, and I, as a retailer, could place an add on it. Is this a bad thing??? No. Is it missleading??? No, it is stated very clearly what the reason for this new forum is. Are people missing it??? OH YES!!! I got severly lambasted for "selling" on AT and I must admit that the claim was not without some basis. I personaly go on these forums because I hav some info I can share, have a great time with all the people, and genuinely love the sport. Do I get some sales from it? Yes, and I am greatfull for the business. I also am going to be sponsoring these sites once things settle down abit to show my support for these forums. But I do not agree with one post popping up and saying "check this out". I have seen too many business owners(and manufacturers)pretend to be "just some guy" on these forums and do quite a bit of self promotion. That bothers me...not saying that this is what happened here, but that is the flag that pops up in my mind.

Bottom line is that this new forum is there to make money for the owners via their store. So long as everyone knows that, then go on, enjoy, and I honestly wish them luck...

I wonder how many people would be posting here if they weren't getting paid for it (or had a vested commerical interest).

Poking your head into a forum and commenting about another forum may be in poor taste but hey how else would you hear about it... It is the net!
