Barnett CB bolts
Hi, Guys,
I'm a newbie here, and was looking for some advice. I have the Panzer CB, and was wondering if anyone here has used it for hunting deer? If so, what weight of broadhead was used. The field points on the original bolts are 125grn. I recently read an article in Traditional Bowhunter, and the Dr. that wrote the article gave me the idea that a heavier bolt would have more penetration. He also wrote that a 2 blade BH gives more penetration than a 4 blade. Please guys, don't get upset with what I just said. I don't mean to bring up any sore spots with anyone. I'm justwondering whether a 150, 160, or 180 grn point might be more lethal considering what I read in the article. The rest of the bows that I use are all logbows, and I don't want to have to buy all different weights of BHs just to try to figure out what can be used. BTW, the bow is 150#, has 16" bolts, ( unlike most others that use 20" bolts )and is NOT a compound type prod. I have found out that according to others on this site,NOT being a compound, does make a difference. According to the box, the bolt speed is 245 FPS. I wouldn't mind giving up a little speed for more penetration, say down to 230 FPS. I just don't know how heavy a BH I can use before bolt speed drops too much or bolt flight is compromised. Any ideas?

Personally I'd want accuracy first, then speed which will produce penetration if the
arrow hlands in the right spot. I've had my best accuracy with relativey light, 4 bladed
broadheads. Namely, 100 gr Slick Trick magnums. My bow shoots closer to 320 fps, complete
passthrough for fouble lung hits, great terminal performance with Slicks.

I also don't mean to stur anything here. it's just that I found with the 16" bolts, the power stroke is to short to get the speed and penatration you need for deer and hogs. with the 20" bolts and longer stroke you get the speed and penatration ya need. I had the same setup 16" bolts and could not get much penatration. I sold it and went to a Barnett quad 400 with the 20" boldt and 16" stroke.
since I did that , the speed and penatration went away.everything has been psss thru's. and awsom blood.

RE: Barnett CB bolts
being i know little about crossbows, take what i say with caution.
if it were me, i would use a point like cossack said.
a 100 grain slick trick for hunting.
i would not use the mechinical even tho they would be fine, heck i used them on my recurve at 40 pds and shot a lot of deer years ago.
open broadhead at slow speeds or slower speeds seems to be way to go.
only take a broadside shot not over 30 ydsand you can almost use anything on deer, shoot at angle or far way, then things will happen.
i left many buck go because i did not have broadside shot even at 10 yards.
some with huge racks on too.
