RE: Excalibur vs. compound
Rope cockers look like string and lawnmower handles, but the force is much higher. Seems like lawnmower handles and string might break. Maybe not. I would definately consider the rope and handle strength if building my own.
Next, compound bows require regular(2 - 3 year on my Tenpoint) string/cable replacement. It is not do-it-yourself friendly. recurve type is DIY firendly, so that is a huge benefit to recurve bows.
Last, Tenpoint requires 420 gr min arrow weight for compound. recurves like Exocet seem to be ok with 350gr. Seems to me that gives more flexibility.
Carbon is supposed to be better, but how? For my money a 2219 or 2216 aluminum is better. In addition, carbon can blow up. . . also for a DIY arrow builder, it is easier to get nocks and inserts for the alum arrows. Maybe carbon will get more popular and change that.

RE: Excalibur vs. compound
i just replaced my rope cocker rope that BROKE.
i am still using the parts from it but i bought a 5/32 nylon rope that is used for lawnmower .
they have rolls of it at the hardware store.
it took 5 ft but i bought 10 ft.
it was 15 cents a foot,i think.
this rope looks tougher than the one that came with my rope cocker.
make sure you look at those hook brass rollers, mine had rough areas on it that i think is what caused my rope to explode while pulling and maybe split my limbs on my horton.
from now on, i am replacing rope yearly, for .75 cents, thats cheap.

I've never had a bent aluminum arrow, that I know of. I haven't spun them yet in a real spinner though. I did break one. I think they may not bend under normal circumstances, but I'm not sure.

RE: Excalibur vs. compound
..hello.
Todday i got the excalibur exocet200... i just put it "together" and i didnt shot yet, 1th. i need too make, an "arrow kindly target" ...
i have 2question...
1th. todday i also bought a "common" (bushnell) scope 3-9 x 40 (anyway its very good scope for 120€. Me and my brother, we are compared with his "Meaopta" 7x56 (i think) for 300€ ++ ... so, we compared "visibility in dusk", i can say , its very very good.)...
Btw i need too get a "mountage" for the scope. Todday i had been in 2 shoops and there is no mountage... ("FI of scope is 1", there the "mounted" should be.)....hmm
And 2.nd question. I mounted-put on string and i "think" or... the string is too short. There are 2 marks, i dont know for what should be "ussed", but i think in betwen those 2 marks should the string be.
Here is, how it looks like. I hope the picture is understandable.

RE: Excalibur vs. compound
You need rings to go around the scope that are compatible with "Weaver Bases" then you need the scope mount like below which is a weaver base.
Your string is Dacron and you need to shoot the bow and with time the string will stretch. When the string stretches much below the first line (near the string) then twist it in the direction that tightens the center serving. It should be counter clock wise looking from the end of the string.
Scope Mount Our SCOPE MOUNT is built from strong anodized aluminum to solidly and securely position your scope for accurate shooting. Using a weavertype base, it installs in seconds using 4 pretapped mounting holes located on every trigger unit.
#2006 MSRP: $26.00 US $26.00 CDN

RE: Excalibur vs. compound
I use the Weaver detachable mount on my Excals and all of my rifles. The Excal rings are cheap dollar wise but not as good. Rings in general are not very expensive.

RE: Excalibur vs. compound
Your string will stretch as you shoot it. Don't worry about it being above the high line. Just make sure it doesn't go below the low line. If it does it will start hitting and will tear up your string.[]
