I'm guessing here cause that's all I got to work w/. It sounds to me like your d-a-r is tipping the scope too far for the internal adj on scope to compensate. you want your d-a-r set where scope is level, or in other words, parallel to the rail. You don't want to complicate your life by trying to use a V-zone and a d-a-r both, set the d-a-r in one posistion and leave it there. All you sight in on a V-zone is the main crosshair at 20 yds. after you have that set, you go to the farther ranges like 30 and 40 and adj your elevation w/ speed ring that has fps numbers on it. They are only rough guide lines, it's poi that counts.Since you no doubt have been adjing the elevation like crazy on the V-zone, I suggested you center it by counting clicks from one extreme to the other and then going half way between them. This should give you equal amounts of adj both up and down. Next, I would shoot at 10 yds, using main crosshair and turn d-a-r til you are near center of target. That would be the last time I touched the d-a-r dial except to pin it in that spot, if you so choose. Next, tweak the elevation adj on scope til 10 yd aim point [above main crosshair] is on or close at 10 yds. Next, go to 20 and use scope adj to get it dead nuts, then do the 30 and 40 like directions tell ya.I could do all of this alot faster than I can type it, lol. Hope it helps!

My dial a range is seems to have absolutely no effect on the scope. The crosshair is on the same point at 0 as it is at 10. When the elavation adjuster is halfway between the two extremes, my POI at 10 yards is what it SHOULD be at 50, so the elevation adjuster on the scope cannot adjust enough.

Are you using the regular horton mount or something else?

Your D-A-R has to be stuck IMO, or it is broke. If you turn it from 0 to 10 and your POI does not change then it has to be stuck in the 10 position and you are only turning dial and not really adjustingit at all. If you feel handy take the screw out I spoke of and remove the mount and pivot point. give it a good look and see if you can see something obvious. If you are good with a computer can you take a pic of old mount and the new one and post it so we could see? Something has to be up with your D-A-R.

thanks guys. I'm going to go to Bass Pro and see if they can sort it out. While I'm there, I'll be getting some sort of silencer. I'd like to keep it inexpensive, and I'd like to lose as few FPS as I can. What is the best system out there that compromises between cost, amount of noise reduction, and minimal loss of speed? Thanks again.

ear plugs! stuff on strings flys off, everything else costs fps [minimal] but don't work anyhow.

I wasthinking more for the purpose of the neighbours and the beasties.... so the pads that go on limbs don't really work?

We all go through this. You will not gain anything to make a difference and will only loose speed. The neighbors that are close enough to care about you shooting next to there house will still hear it. And there is nothing out there that will make a CB even remotely close to being quite as a regular bow. So anything you do will not gain you enough to do anything, and you only slow your CB down. My Horton had everything on it, after trying that stuff, my Excal has nothing on it.
