I am no engineer but I know that when a skipping rope smacks the ground it bouces up and then back down again. The Excal string is released from the top and would want to act like a skipping rope. I believe the tension against the rail prevents this.
While we are at it why do engines turn clockwise when viewed from the from of the car?
???Because the early auto's had hand crank starters and it was due to right handers???

As to the string tight to rail, I recently learned that even if string is tight to rail, a thinner string will cause a substantial poi change higher at 30 yds even though both strings shoot same fps. I would suggest you strive for middle of shaft diameter for string height, all the Excals are tight to rail.

Now we are getting some place. The rail and string wheels should be on the same plane through out the power stroke. By putting pressure on the rail you may alter that plane. Changing to a lesser diameter and shooting higher suggests to me that the stringis traveling on a downward slope. Pushing down on the nock causing the bolt to rise on the rail. If we could keep the string in constant relation to the rail ,without contact , thoughout travel, it would add to consistency. As to strings jumping the bolt..that shows the wheels and rails are not on the same plane.....Now go find me info on my Proline...64

hey..this is fun!!
