Crossbow sight question
Illinois just implemented a new law allowing those of us over age 62 to bowhunt with a crossbow. I recently bought a Horton Legand 175 and would like to have pros and cons of a red dot scope and of a crosshair scope.

RE: Crossbow sight question
Welcome to the forum! I'll start your ball rolling, lol. I don't care for red dots, single or multiple types. On most other bows than yours one has to remember the hold over for all the ranges. That's w/ single dot. The multiple dots are too close together in my book and are seldom exact except for one range.Yours has a dial-a-range, aka dial-a-rage which is what happens when the rope cocker moves the dang thing on ya. I've gone thru two of Hortons 4x on a friends bow. They leave alot to be desired compared to an Excal V-zone or L-zone. I set a bow like yours up for a friend, great shooter, nice trigger. If you want to get the most out of it, imho, pin the mount in one place and get a V or L zone, dead nuts on from 10-50 yds.

Now a word from our CB sponser me, not really. You can also use a rifle scope, just sight it in at 20 or 25 yds. then its good out to 30 or 35 by holding crosshair on deers backbone! Yup slice'em and dice'em!

You an have both in one. The LumeZone scope offered by Excalibur has a crosshair reticule with 5 aiming points, that light up on demand. Scope gives you magnification that red dot does not. Much more precise but a bit heavier. I traded my red dot for the LumeZone and have absolutely no regrets. Oh yes, if your battery dies while you are hunting you're out of luck with a red dot. Not so with any scope, including the one I mentioned.

The Excal Varizone and lumizone are hands down the best CB scopes IMO. One disadvantage I had with a red dot and it was my fault was getting into tree and going to turn on only to see I left it on last time and now I am in a tree with dead batteries. Alot of guys are happy with the red dots but the Excal scopes are top notch IMO.

RE: Crossbow sight question
I just purchased a russian pso scope a couple of weeks ago on the internet from ottawa ontario for 136.00 plus taxes and shipping.
This scope has pilons similar to excal, and it is 8x42.
This scope seems to work quite well whether useing the pilons or dialing in which i prefer, it has turrets. I repeatedly moved the turret from 20 yds to 40 to 30 back to 20 and they seem to be holding steady.
if any one else has tried this scope i would like to hear what you think of it. The price was american priceing.
