Default Point of Inpact Shifts Right Off-hand?

All,

I'm new to crossbows. I sighted in kneeling and supporting my right elbow on a table. The sight picture was very steady. Shooting off-hand, the bolts impact right. Is this a common occurance? Is there something in particular I should look for as a possible shooting form problem?

Thanks for any help.

One problem that has occured in the past is for first time crossbow shooters is that they do not hold them level (limbs parallel to the ground) when shooting off hand. This will ccause you to be either right or left, if you hit high or low.

Point of impact should not be any different if your bow is working properly and your shooting form is corect.

Good luck.

Also, if you are refering to shots beyond 20 yards you may very well be dealing with a scope leveling issue, common and easily fixable.

Rope cocker?? Eliminates alot of accuracy problems. Not having one is no big deal, just mark your string at rest on either side of the rail, then check when you cock it to see if the marks are equal distance in reference to the rail. Naturally, when you mark them at rest, they will be inside the rail line when cocked, no matter, as long as they are even/equal.

GrumpyTom & Pydpiper,

Thanks for the input. I'm pretty sure I'm holding the limbs level. I have been making a conscious effort to do so. This shooting has been at 20 yards in my basement. I also shot it outside at 27 yards with the POI further right. I'm using a fiber optic pin and the peep that came with the setup.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again.

Roger

Roger your further statement

Leaves me to still believe that your limbs are not level. When your limbs are not level, when your shooting distances greater or shorter then the distance for your sight, your point of impact will be either right or left (depends which way it is tilted).

As awshucks suggested, cocking the string off to a side will also do this, but the rope cocker will cock the string straight so I do not think that is the problem.

As I have said above, I still lean towards the limbs being held at an angle. It is not an uncommon problem, excalibur actually has a level (accessory) which is attached to the riser to help the shooter over come this problem.

I was finding the same problem, shooting a little low to the right when shooting free hand. I figured out what it was. I wasent following through on the shot. Just as I squeezed the trigger to shoot i was simutanesly already dropping the bow to see where I hit. Once I started following through on my shots this corrected the problem and I was hitting accuratly. Hope maybe this helps

This could also be the rout of your problem. Remember to hold the bow on target and try to see the arow through the sight hit the target. This will make sure your bow does not move before the arrow has left the rail.

Good luck.
