I set my speed ring to approximately my REAL velocity (the factory info is generally inflated by 20 fps). Then sight in for a 20 yard zero using the crosshairs. The triangle above then becomes my 10 yard sero, first triangle down the 30 yard zero and so on.
In case you run out of adjustment on your scope turrets. If the bow is shooting high and you cant get it to adjust lower, puit a shim (I used a piece of alluminum pop can) under the FRONT ring. If it's shooting low, shim the BACK ring.

Which ones are inflated by 20 fps? Excals are near spot on if you use stock arrows and FFF string.I see they now come w/ dacron, but my emax had the FFF w/ it a few years back.

I'm talking about results for my Excalibur and a Parker. Both are overstated with the factory strings they come with according to my chron. The Excal, is low even with the Flemish string. I'm not ragging on either, fine bows, just don't give me the promised speed. That proved to be the case with the Vortex I tried too... with both my chron and the stores'. Under ideal consitions, with the lighest possible arrow, a ( minimum strand) Flemish string and the string set as low as possible I'm sure it can happen. I'm saying it don't unless everything is that way. (That's why the asteric behind the speed rating in the ads).
By the way, your comment based on chroned results? Or you just getting defensive about your Excal?

Cossack: Chrony results w/ a caveat. I'm shooting 431 gr vs 357 gr stock, which I never chronied. I've read alot of places you lose 1 fps for every 5 gr weight increase. 431-357=84 gr/5= 16-17 fps. W/ FFF string and 431's I get 285-290 fps from my Phoenix and 328 fps from Emax.A few fps over the advertised 305 for Phoenix and about the same under for the Emax. It appears to be a bow by bow thing as the Excal guys seem to range pretty close to advertised specs w/ stock arrows.I also am using the "high" mark for a brace height, knowing the lower gives the highest fps. No offense meant, I just don't believe 20 fps low is an accurate evaluation of Excals advertised speeds.

No offense meant either Awshucks, but that has been my chroned results using stock carbon bolt with 4'' vanes, and 100 gr field tip. The 2" vanes are just a bit faster but still don't reach athe advertised speed using the Excel string. The 24 strand FF Flemish is a bit faster but still won't hit 330 fps with my Vortex, it's advertised speed. And just barely hit it with the Equinox.
But, I guess it don't matter, my nephew shot a foot short at 40 yards by using the wrong aimpoint on the LumiZone tonight. The bolt skipped up, after digging in pretty hard, and still went through 5/8" cedar board backing for half the length of the bolt. So, I'm not going to quibble about 20 fps.

My my speed, i don't have a chrony. I did use Dan's, with my Phoenix using the FFF string and 494gr. 2219's i got 265/266 fps avg. fer over 50 shots. I love to shoot logs,[]they smack the crap out things they hit![8D]

I'm guessing here, help me out, lol, but stock Excal arrows don't have 4" vanes they have 5". If you have brass inserts vs alum, you have Miller Killers, lol, not stock 357 gr Excals.

You are absolutely right, awshucks, my bad.They're Bemans with 4" vanes. They "came with the bow'' but it was a 'local' package. I do shoot the Gold Tips Lazer II's that Excal (used to) sell with the bow, the ones with the 5'' vanes and aluminum inserts, as my hunting arrow. Those I havn't chroned (yet) but I don't expect them to be as fast.
