Yeah, the golf rangefinders will measure distanceswithin their limitations in the woods. Generally there isn't too many things in the way on a golf course when you're spotting the flags for distance. Some of the golf ones are cheaper because they don't have the bells and whistles such as being able to look through brush and rain. My brother-in-law bought an expensive one that even tells the temperature. But it mostly reads his hand temperature when heis holding it so this feature is pretty useless. I also have a Ranging rangefinder from the 80's and I know the golf ones will be a step up from this. I say go for it.
