RE: Ladder tree Stand
I can't imagine how pi$$ed I would be if I got up early, geared up, got to my hunting spot only to find that some punk stole from me. I feel for each of you that have delt with that.
I have a Viper climbing tree stand that goes back home with me each trip. I can tell you first hand it sucks lugging that thing in and out of the woods and setting it up. I only got out a few times last year but each time I dreded using it.

When i put up stands before the season i poke nails up through the bottom of the padding, that way if someone that isnt supposed to be in it or someone who steals it gets a few new piercings! Just make sure to take them out before you hunt!

RE: Ladder tree Stand
most of stands that are stolen here in my area of pa. are on PRIVATE GROUND...
on public ground, very few are stolen..
i hunt public ground and use ladder stand,if i am not going to be there next day, i take the lower rung off and hide it in woods..
your best bet is to get a lock on stand with LADDER STEPS..
leave stand up and remove the lower ladder step and hide it...
, i use ladder stand as others are to hard to get into in morning for me..
my ladder stands cost me 49 dollars at dicks..
i put out 2 each season in archery,1 for morning, other for evenings..
i have been doing this for 50 years and never had stand stolen....
someone said they are scum bags, some are not..
they are hunters that are mad that you are hunting in area that they had to themselves for 100 years..
many that have tore the stands down, not stoled them but destroyed them..
at 1 time, i had same feelings and views, but now i dont treestand hunters try to chase me out of woods......
i said this would happen when deer got scare, some have to get that DEER MEAT, and they will steal or destroy your stand..
trust me on this, if i find out who takes my stand, which i will, i will shoot every tire of their pick up and windows too....

you will be fine, but only do this if you are coming out next day or 2...
my family does it all time...
i agree with carrying stand in to your spot, old buck is not going to let you get away with that..
thats why i went to LADDER STAND..
what difference going in to hunt..
i also hide a deer cart i made out of a WHEELCHAIR and 3/4 inch conduit....
i am back in woods over mile and i hunt right to dark and sometimes i come out with a buck at 10 pm at night with cart by myself....
so, no one wants to steal my stand,to hard to get it out, most they will do is knock it down.....

it was at PICKS,change P to a D..they are 15 feet high, black and come with cushion..
i think name of stands at comfort stands..
you can look at them at their site on here...
you can also get a 4 ft extension for 19 dollars if you want up 19 ft..
my brother takes his son up on one, then hangs his lock on about 4 ft above the top, his son sits on the ladder and dad above him....
he likes this set up better than his climbing stand..
that stand is nice,i sold both my climbing stands......

I have been fortunate I guess.I have never had anything stolen from the woods where I hunt. This year I willbe hunting from Box Stands (Woo-Hoo!!!!!) but plan on using a climbing stand on occasions but I would not leave it anyway. As for the one that are stealing, they should be sentenced to a life of hard work and values like the rest of us....or the state pen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I gotta tell ya, as a disabled person, I have a stand, and a guy who helps me in and out of it, and I have to say as a formewr police chief they ought to be tied to a tree and whipped! It would be a lesson they never forgot. Because of that scum, I do not hang a stand, I had it donated and I cant afford to replace it should it be taken!

other reason is they dont want others hunting there,so, that hunter destroys stands..
others are drug users who need money..
others are kids...
many cameras are being stolen now off trees in woods and lot are on privateland....
all this is do to LACK OF DEER and bad economy here in pa....10 years ago you very seldom heard of stand being stolen,,,,,
there needs to be law passed to stop this,if not, it will continue......
