carlc ..... Different people will always have different opinions on thier bows and what is best.
Since crossbows are "new to people" (even though they have been around for thousands of years) and most people that come into the world of crossbows, come into it with the vertical compound mentelllity which tells people that wheels are better. In the crossbow world, that is not necessarily correct. In the hunting world, I believe that simplicity is best. This is, if you need to, you can repair it in the woods and continue to hunt without ruining your hunt trip.
The only answer that can be truthful to you is .... you need to answer that yourself. Pick up the different bows and see what is best fitting for you. Will you be happy with a recurve or the compound (some people just have a one track mind and can't let go of a certain style bow).
All that I know is that Excalibur is the most accurate (tournaments have proven that over the last decade) and most dependable (least possible to go wrong). But what is best for you, you will have to decide that yourself.

I had the new Vortex in my hands yesterday, wow, the thing was amazing, apparently the first one in Ontario.
Make sure you keep asking questions and reading all you can on your future purchase, you will still end up with an Excalibur but at least then you will know why.

The 10 point is a very fine X-bow it is also quite expensive,I have one have shot it for many years and taken many deer and some boar with it; I also have a Exocet excaliber and it is very good very simple and easy to maintain and price wise dollar for value nothing can compare to it. One of the things some people have to take into consideration is the cocking mechanism on that 10 points Accudraw stands alone as the best crank type without a compitition ;but Excaliber has the best rope cocker if that fits your needs. Personally I'm an Excalibur owner and fan. I'm pretty loyal to Excalibur, and buy their stuff. I have an Excalibur Phoenix and Vixen, and they're great crossbows. Very accurate. Also don't hurt the wallet.

Been shooting a Horton for a long time and have been very happy with it. Since being onthe forum have been introduced to the Excal folks and they seem pretty happy with there product. Plan on getting a new Vortex this summer when the cash flow gets right. Horton's are fine CB's but I would only go with the upper end ones. A few Ten point guys on here and they seem pretty happy with there stuff also. Lee has had one for a while and never heard him say any bad about his. As for the bowtech goes, I would let that one pan out for a few years. Alot of new stuff and design on that CB and I think alot of people are going to be test dummy's! Not saying it is bad, but first run products always need fine tuning.

I JUST GOT MY NEW EXOMAX. WOW!! WHAT A SHOOTER.IT AMAZED ME RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, BUT AFTER I ADDED THE VARIZONE SCOPE IT IS NOW AMAZING MY VERTICAL BOW FRIENDS. WITH THE ROPE COCKER IT ITS EASY TO SHOOT AND IT'S RIGHT ON THE MONEY OUT TO 50 YDS. ALSO EASIER ON THE BANK ACCOUNT TO BEGIN WITH. MY WIFE HAS BEEN SHOOTING AN EXOCET FOR 5 YEARS AND SHE'S AN EXCAL GIRL FOR SURE. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR DECISION.
