RE: Finally Got One
Sweet,
So did your heart start pumping when you saw them heading your way?. Isn't that something that you can plan a hunt, get geared up, do everything right, spend all day in the woodsand nothing. Then on the spur of a moment head out and get one. Sounds like it was your time to harvest one. Gotta love it. Good job and enjoy.

Congrats Dan! Glad to here you score!! I like the skinning method too! I bet I have killed more of my deer on a whim last minute hunt then the ones that were well planed out. I assume it was the Phoenix?

Thanks to all, this monster scored 61 3/8 lol, trying to eat him slooowwwly, lol.
GPea: For some reason, I have never had buck fever, however I do have the same thought that runs thru my mind each time right before I let the shot go, which is: "How you gonna screw this up, Dummy"
Hburn: Yeah the Phoenix, no wood stock to protect, most accurate of the 3, and the one I shoot best off hand w/.
My property is 12 acres on the west side of a 40 acre square that goes n-s from highway to Natl Forest. I have the run of the whole 40, and always go look for tracks when we get a snow. Found these three on the east side of 40 headed west, my way. My 12 acres is about 130 yds wide and near 3/8 mile long, have trails for 4 wheeler all the way around it and two that cut thru from side to side. This stand was about in the middle, used to bait bears there until I figured out same bears were coming from back stand on Natl Forest border, so haven't used it in a couple of years.
Even a blind hog finds an acorn once in awhile, and these deer just walked thru the wrong/right spot at the wrong/right time. Here's the pic I posted for the contest, and yes Dnk, I tucked his tongue back in and hid the wounds just for you! Still gotta go see if I can find the arrow, lol.
