RE: Crossbow Bolts
bigboyky: Glad you got what you need, it's real hard to "talk' on a keyboard. You never know what someone knows or doesn't know, the reason you need the moon nocks is your bow's "claws" [holds sting at full cock] pivot below the string, the others that take flat nocks pivot above the string. Physics says the string will try to go in the direction it comes off of the claws in. Have fun and keep us informed!!

I shoot just the plain Horton 2116Bolts and 100 Gr Spitfires also in myHorton Legend 175, nice combination, accurate and you can get them nearly everywherethat sellsarchery supplies.
I suppose some of the othersmay be betterbolts, but I figured if I shot standard out of the box stuff it would be easier to replace if I damaged anything.
I have had to replace 12 bolts in 2 years from hitting them with subsequent shots. Now I shoot a target with 5 different bullseyes and one arrow at each bulleye, it just gottoo expensive to work on tighter groups.
Welcome to the forum and good luck to ya.

RE: Crossbow Bolts
All but two models of Hortons require the halfmoon or moon nocks. The barrel has what is called a "micro flight" barrel. When shot the arrow is not in contact with the barrel except for the last half an inch or so. If you look at the end of your barrel you should be able to see what I am talking about. After that first half inch you will see where the barrel is machined deeper then the end. Your arrow will sit in this when it is cocked and look like is will be there when shot. But as you shoot the string goes into the nock and lifts the arrow out of the barrel and thearrow rides on the front half inch and on the nock in the string, much like a vertical bow with a prong rest. This way you do not get defects in the barrel affecting your acuracy. If you shot the flats this design will not work. Will you be able to shoot flats? sure, but they will not group as good. Horton does not sell flat nocks anymore, they do this for a reason, and its the barrel. They dont just not sell flats for the heck of it.
Now as for you second question, arrow length. I do not think you will get a arrow shorter then 20" to fit on your bow. I think the only bow that will take shorter arrows is the steel force. Also if your goal is to shoot a lighter arrow to gain speed you will ruin your bow. Alot of guys try to get lighter arrows get a fewmore fps and then crack their limbs and blame the bow maker for bad product, and its their fault for not reading the print in the book that comes with the bow!Hortons minimum arrow weight is 431 i think but you will have to go to their site to comfirm. If you go lighter you will be putting your bow in a dry fire affect and crack your limbs after time.
As for theb-heads, I have shot all most all of my deer with 100 grain muzzys. But this year I will be trying the new tekan 2's. Goodluck and enjoy!

bigboyky: I got to thinking about this part of your last post: "It's been my experiance that on these forums you get good information most times better than the so called experts around the county"
You know, you got a good point there, I guess the reason is the collective eperiences on this and some other forums does really qualify as "expert" opinoins and advice. There are untold countless hours of experiments and lessons learned here, some hard, others easy, but lessons all. I know I've learned alot on these forums in a short while, since I got my first puter last Dec. I really enjoy the fact that some of us tend to clown around a bit, lol, but all come together to try to help anyone that asks. i took your quote above as a compliment and hope all of the others that try to help feel the same. Straight arrows to ya!!

Yup, you'll find the Excal a good source of info but you get the feeling that you have to tip toe some times. There are some really good guys there though. In the end it is a good informative forum. Excal as a company is beyond reproach.

RE: Crossbow Bolts
Thanks to all I have a much clearer idea of what's what...... at least with crossbows. I just wish it wasn't raining here so I could get out and shoot! I just bought this thing Sunday, shot about 30 minutes after putting it together. Now nothing but rain. Well like I said thanks!
