Need help with 20yr old Browning X-Bow
I was recently given a Browning x-bow with no idea how to use it. I took it to a shop where they told me I needed a new string and that was it. I have many more questions though. How do you determine bolt length and tip weight. And I'm also puzzled by the raising and lowering of the scope mount. The scope is old and I was told the rail is to small for a red dot. If anybody has the time to help that's be great. I'm very new but also very eager to learn. Thanks

RE: Need help with 20yr old Browning X-Bow
TC: First off, I'd call Browning and see what they can tell ya. Chances are you may need cables too if it's that old. "Tip weight" can be what ever you want, more or less, but on a compound xbow it's the overall weight that matters most, you can only go just so light. Most use 100 gr points and b-heads, but others prefer 125 gr. Unless you make your own arrows, the store boughts are going to be either 20 or 22" long. Another thing you need to find out that I can't tell you is which type of nock you need on your arrows, some take flat nocks and some take what's called moon or half moon nocks. They are one in the same and are concave. If you know the model name that would help you get info here and other places. If you can find the string length or measure the one on it, you can always get one made. More guessing here, but it sounds like the dovetail for scope is 3/8" instead of the more common "Weaver" style like is on high power rifles. That dovetail is also called a .22 mount, and if that's the case you just need to find a red dot that will fit a .22 The mount moving sounds like a dial a range type, but need more info or a pic to address that. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
