Caution
Hey guys , my Phoenix died this A.M.I had bought it used.I had wondered about it since I got it,, it always seamed to be noisier than it should be , and the more I shot the noisier it seamed to get, and it neve did seam to be as accurate as I have been told they were, well I was shooting yesterday evening , and it seamed to be getting even louder I figured it was just my ears, I dont hear so great anyways, so blew it off .. well this A.M. I was shooting it and it was sounding real strange, well I had ran a cloth accrosss the limbs and had a spot or 2 on the left limb but never thought anything of them , they just seamed to be extrusion marks from the molding process, anyways with the way it sounded I checked the limbs when it was cocked the spots where it snaged seamed to be way more noticable, so got on the Excal site and found out where the nearest proshop was that could do warrenty work on Excals, lucky for me there was one only 30 miles away so took the Phoenix to the shop and they guy checked it out and said he wasent 100 percent sure but said he was relativly sure that the left limb was either fractured or craked/splintered, anyway how this happened I do not know maybe the previous owner dryfired it or dropped it or maybe it happened in shipping, no way of knowing for sure. anyway on the up side I got great ExCal service,, at the proshop, they checked out mu crossbow even though it was not bought there and the guy said that id he had ,, had a Phoenix he woud have just changed out the limbs for me, he didnt have any and it was going to take a week to 10 days to get them, well I didnt want to wait so asked him what Excals he had in , he had Vixens and Exomax`s and had one Exocet in his storeroom, well I ended up with the ExoCet he took my wounded Phoenix in trade and only charged me $75.00 boot , that I thought was great.. and have now shot the Exocet and it is so much quieter, and groups so much better..
anyway moral to this long winded post be careful when buying used..
sorry for the long post , but thought this might help someone down the road..

RE: Caution
well I could not say for sure ,, UPS can be pretty rough on items being shipped ,, Got the arrows I ordered from D. Miller today and thought they were going to all be broken one end of the box wa s smashed fortunately the arrows were at the other end ,, and it didnt hurt the strings I ordered,, and it could have happened with the last owner and he not known about it,, a crack can start out unnoticable and get worse over time,, no worries now I got one with a little more power and speed, it is a little harder to cock it though, hard to believe how much 1 inch in power stroke can make
know of anyone who coupd machine a droptine sturrup?? might have to see if a TenPoint Droptine can be mounted would make it easier to cock the bow..

RE: Caution
The only two things that will give you splintered limbs are dry firing and material failure. I've never heard of limbs failing, which leaves dry fires.
Try shortenig up the rope cocker a couple of inches, so you have to work just a bit to get the second hook on. It will make alot more difference than one might think. Bad week for used xbows eh, Henry??

I'm with Dan and Mike. Not many people like us here! I cannot think of anyone here doing that but I can think of many others to be sure. Any how Henry you did good. Good that you found some one to deal with.
