Default Arrow weight

I am shooting an old Hunter, now 10pt with 185# limbs have done extremly well with it on deer, but am now using it on boar.
What I would like to find out is optimum arrow wieght for the combination that gives max speed and penitration at the same time for boar and bear [seen one on my place] Thanks Lee

With a 185 lb. you can choose either the 100 or 125gr. cut on contact broadhead. I don't know what you have been using on deer. If it passed thru and you like them then it will do bears and hogs![]

That is an oxymoron. Weight gives you penetration or greater sectional density. If you want things faster you will have to make it lighter which lowers the sectional density which means less penetration. Sectional density is basically frontal area X mass. Energy = mass x velocity squared which means if you double your velocity you quadrouple your energy but does not increase penetration. In the end if you want penetration use the heaviest shaft BH combination that gives you a satisfactory trajectory and accuracy. You have no choice but to experiment. Lucky for you there aren't alot of choices in shafts and you can pick the heaviest target head and start shooting and shaving off weight until you are happy. Of course you could just be happy with what the other guys deem good enough. Sorry about the science class, just want Squirrel to see what happens when you go to school!

OK lemoyne i would say its time to buy a new and better Crossbow! Only an Excalibur will do maybe a Phoenix would fit in, or that sweet Vixen. The choices are there, 4 of them. Which one will it be?[8D]

Lemoyne,
The same outfit you have ben using on deer will work just fine for boar. I have done it myself. Either 100 of the 125 will work fine. Have you been using 2219s aluminums?
If your in the market for a new bow, 10pt has some great new models out this year. Good prices too. PM me if you need a catalog. Excal has some good bows too.
Thanks,
Randy
