ACF ANNOUNCES LAUNCHING OF BIG GAME CROSSBOW RECORD BOOK
Since the inception of the American Crossbow Federation’s Individual Membership program in 2001, one question regarding ACF benefits has overshadowed all of the rest combined – “When are we going to have a crossbow record book?” We are pleased to announce that work has finally begun to establish the ACF BIG GAME REGISTER, which will document and record the harvest of big game animals with horizontal or vertical bow for all ACF members. The preliminary objectives have been met and registrations have begun. Certain aspects of the process will be evolutionary in nature, but a basic blueprint of action has been established.
All species of big game animals (including introduced species) shot in North America and all game taken with an arrow from ANY bow from around the world will be accepted for consideration. The initial “minimum size listing” may not include a particular species, but eventually all species will be added to the register as entry applications determine need. The ACF scoring system will be similar to that of the Safari Club International program, which does not have a deduction system. If an animal has non-typical points and the entrant chooses to register it in the typical class, the non-typical points will not be added to the total score.
All animals taken with a crossbow, going back to 1975, will be eligible for application to be ranked in the register. A completed registration form must be submitted with three photos of the entry (one from the left, one from the right and one frontal). Photos may be taken in the field at time of harvest or of the mounted specimen. Eligibility for inclusion in the record book will require that the applicant is a dues paying or Lifetime Member of the American Crossbow Federation. There will be a $25.00 registration fee for each animal entered. Each entry that qualifies for registration will receive an attractive award certificate, a record book membership card, and a listing in the ACF BIG GAME REGISTER for each animal registered. As the program evolves, other awards will be developed to give special recognition to members that harvest exceptional specimens and that make outstanding service contributions to the American Crossbow Federation.
A minimum qualification score has been or will be established for each species and, here again, will resemble SCI guidelines for the majority of species. The entry fee to register each animal will be used to defray the initial costs of the project, primarily for design and development of the forms and award certificates, advertising and contract labor. A portion of each entry fee will be placed in reserve to underwrite the future costs of publishing the first edition of the ACF BIG GAME REGISTER. The inaugural volume will be printed within three years of conception or after the first 500 entries have been received.
If you are an ACF member or would like to join and you have ideas to share, questions to ask, or an animal to register, please contact the ACF Main Desk at 320-634-3660 or email us at [email protected] Rules, registrations forms and species minimum requirements are available and we have begun taking registration applications.

RE: ACF ANNOUNCES LAUNCHING OF BIG GAME CROSSBOW RECORD BOOK
I shot a buck last season that scores about 130. He could score more like 135 but he is a very nice buck. I am going to register him if I can.

RE: ACF ANNOUNCES LAUNCHING OF BIG GAME CROSSBOW RECORD BOOK
ACF BIG GAME REGISTER IS TAKING ENTRIES
Entries have begun arriving at the Main Desk for the ACF Big Game Register. Forms are now available, so if you have animals you would like to enter, please contact us for the rules, species minimums and entry forms. The forms are not copyrighted, therefore you may make as many copies as you wish from the original. We also have them available on PDF files, which can be emailed to your mail box upon request.
There is one very important note that everyone should be aware of. The American Crossbow Federation has always supported ALL legal forms of hunting with ALL legal weapons. We DO NOT discriminate against other hunters because they don’t do it the way we do. In keeping with that philosophy, we will be accepting entries of ALL ANIMALS taken with an arrow, regardless of what kind of a bow it is. The only requirements are that the entrant be a paid ACF member and that his or her trophy is or was not taken in violation of the ACF Big Game Register Rules.
At the time of registration, or at any time thereafter, each qualified entry may purchase the Official ACF Trophy Plaque to hang on the wall with his or her record book animal. This finely finished wooden plaque bears the ACF logo and the name of the species, the official score, the date taken and the name of the hunter. The plaque and your award certificate make wonderful additions to the final presentation of your animal on the trophy room wall.
There will also be a category for wild turkey since that species is considered to be a big game animal in all states and provinces. The official score of the trophy will be obtained by the combined length of spurs plus the length of the beard. The minimum score to enter the book is seven inches.
For additional information, entry forms and rules contact the ACF Main Desk by email at [email protected] or telephone at 320-634-3660. We will be happy to provide you with any help you need. For your convenience, we have included a copy of the rules below.

Record Book Entry Rules
1. Entries for the ACF BIG GAME CROSSBOW REGISTER will only be accepted from Lifetime or currently paid members of the American Crossbow Federation. All qualified members will be allowed to submit animals that were taken with a crossbow or vertical bow prior to their membership. Each entry must meet the minimum required score for the species being entered and include the type, brand and model of the bow used to take the trophy.
2. Each entry must be measured by a qualified measurer that has previous experience with SCI, Boone and Crockett, Buckmasters, Pope and Young or state record books. Registration forms are available from the ACF main desk by email at [email protected] or you may telephone us at 320-634-3660 to receive forms by mail. One completed form should be submitted to the ACF by mail with photos and registration fees, another should be retained by the applicant for his or her records and yet another should be retained by the official measurer.
3. All entries must be accompanied by colored photographs of the entry, preferably in the field, but may be of the finished mount, to be considered for registration. Photos will be permanent part of the registration file and must be of good quality and clearly focused. All entries must have at least three photos taken of each specimen, including one from the left side of the animal, one from the right and one from a head on position.
4. The $25 entry fee (U.S. Funds) must be included with each individual entry and an additional $25 (U.S. Funds) if you wish to receive the trophy plaque for your entry. Each application should be printed cleanly and neatly with all blanks completed. All questions must be answered in their entirety or the application will not be processed until they are. The name of each entrant in the record book will appear exactly as it does on the entry form. Make sure that the application contains your ACF membership number for membership verification.
5. It is important that our members realize that if your animal qualifies for the ACF Big Game Crossbow Register, it also qualifies for the Safari Club International Record Book of Trophy Animals. We encourage our members to support SCI and register your animals in their book as well.
