Now, out of a treestand ? Equal IMO. Any deer I shot with a compound I could have with a crossbow and vice versa.
This is a joke. I use xbow and a compound and a TARD bow. I just use the xbow in rifle seasion in a wepion restriction spot. There is a HUGE difrances in the xbow and REAL bows when tree hunting or ground hunting.
DEER DO NOT SEE COLOR THEY SEE MOVEMENT. You have to move to use a real bow.

All states allow crossbows - don't forget that - and alienating all those crossbow shooters is a very bad thing
Anti-hunting ......... thats just frickin great
What is compounds reach the popularity that results in the same thing ? Ban compounds ?
Are you seriously trying to imply this is a 2nd Amemendment issue ? LOL
Do a little reading ......... a LOT of guys tag out the first year with compounds. They are DESIGNED to be shot easily buddy
Whatever - I aint no rookie and have more experience than most here. Sorry to burst your bubble
Who are you really trying to kid here ? Watch any hunting video. Guy sees deer coming, guy waits for deer to step behind a tree, bowhunter draws compound and holds, and holds, and holds ............ until the deer is where he wants it, sights in and pulls the trigger. Crossbows ? No draw, but then its not really comaprative because the compounds aint drawing with the animal RIGHT THERE anyway, is he ?
Recurve ? Aint no drawing and waiting. That animal has to be RIGHT THERE, that animal has to be IN THE POSITION to shoot, and the archer has to draw, anchor with no letoff and concerntrate and shoot all RIGHT THERE -
Huge differnce, anyone who's shot trad knows that. Anyway who says there isn't a difference isn't being truthful.

I for one will teach the xbow is NOT bow hunting equpment,Till it is leagal in Montana.
People are not getting it. If gun season is gone there will be NO WAY IN HELL we will beable to keep our guns. They will bereplaced by xbows in hunting. SO in turn the old big brother will say there is no reasion to have the old JUNK rifle.
Are you seriously trying to imply this is a 2nd Amemendment issue ? LOL
I have not hunted with a 1st timer that has killed 2 deer in one year with a REAL bow ever.mmmmmmmmmmmmmm All the guys/ladys I hunt with must suck.Or maby the xbows help out a TON so there is less need for skill.I would bet on the 2nd one :}

I am not the one trying to say there is no difrantce from tard to compuond YOU are. I am saying If you think copuonds are so bad XBOWS are even worse.I do shot ALL 3 with the XBOW being used where it is LEAGAL RIFLE season.I am allso do not like high let off bows. My compuond is 100# mathews safari. Try holding that and holding and holding.Like I said if you hunted with all 3 of them and can see no difrance from compound to XBOW. You sure don"t hunt with them much. I hunt with all 3 every year.

Ya know what sucks about crossbows..........The people that whine about it. Crossbow are this and crossbow are that. The xbowers that whine so much are just pushing the crossbow further and further away from hunters that aren't familiar with it. JMO!
Believe me data your no angel. You are an anti-compund so I see it the same way, anti![:'(] If your so "Traditional" why do you post so little in that forum compared to this one???? Don't you think thats weird??? Right???

First ...Bowhunters / Archers are holding their own, barely growing or declining in every state. For every new bow hunter we get .. an old one is lost. So stop implying that advancements to compounds are driving hoards of new archers to the sport. We both know that is not true. It is true more deer in many states are being killed by archers, but due to more tags per hunter than new hunters. That "new hunter" number is defintily not growing.
Second... Yes, it most definitely is a 2nd amendment issue. Adams and others here get it. If you had spent any time in the North East at all you would be all to aware of the potential future of your sport. Very large sections of states are switching to archery only as the deer management method of choice... as soon as that happens, guns are no longer allowed to be discharged in that town or county, even on private property. It may not have hit Arkansas quite yet ... but it will. I can tell you exactly what happens right behind that as it has happended to dozens of towns shortly thereafter .. ALL hunting, in every form is made illegal. Even on private property. Don't believe me? Check out Massachusett's, CT's, RI's list of towns where ALL hunting is illegal... even if you owned 500 acres of private property to do it on, you couldn't so much as shoot a squirrel.
Dismiss this if you want as a compound's are just as bad as crossbow argument. Making "archery" some extremely large and diverse group of hunters using similar weapons does not help hunting in any way. I believe Crossbow hunters should be able to hunt .. but don't think opening the pandora's box of making "archery season" the most viable way of controlling game is without serious consequence. You have used the argument "what does it hurt" allowing crossbows during archery season so often I couldn't read all of the posts ... but you must in all of your travels not seen the flip side of archery as a hunting method.. as there are right now many gun hunters and muzzleloader hunters and shotgun hunters who have been pushed aside, even in areas where safety is no issue .. by the portion of the public who is jumping at the chance to end gun use by any and all hunters.
Keeping them seperate solves this .. the numbers of archer kills and crossbow kills will be seperated and managed differently. No different then ML and firearm numbers being seperate. The diversity of our hunting seasons and methods are maintained. A great idea may be to take some of the tag allotments archers get .. in some states ridiculously high to unlimited, and spread them across crossbows, bows ML's and guns. What archer wouldn't be happy to only take 3 deer instead of 10 in defence of our sport?
There are options.. that your fiery personal opinions have blinded you to. Your lack of deeper insight could cost many for the gain of a few.

RE: ACF ANNOUNCES LAUNCHING OF BIG GAME CROSSBOW RECORD BOOK
The one thing that should be most important to each and every hunter in North America is doing whatever he or she can do to bring ALL hunters together in one unified force. We cannot do that by jumping on our brothers because they like to bait deer, or they like to run bears with hounds or any other of the stupid things that hunters beat up other hunters over. In the last decade (1991-2001) the number of hunters DECREASED by more than 1.7 million and like me, most of the remaining ones are older than dirt. And as the hammering of one another goes on, the animal rights wacos slice away more of our support and heritage with each passing month
Instead of expiring energy kicking fellow hunters around, we should be working with schools, youth groups and woman organizations to recruit new and young hunters from where ever we can. This is no joke! I want my grandchildren and great grandchildren to be able to experience the thrill and satisfaction of bringing wild game to the family table. I truly feel sorry for those that are so get caught in their own personal agendas for fear that they might be cheated out of game or an opportunity that they fail to see what is really important to our hunting heritage and hunting future. Lord knows that there is plenty of game to go around! Lets get more people involved to share in the bounty and safeguard our hunting tradition.
As we travel around the continent, we occasionally run in to the contrary of mind and spirit, but for the most part, the hunters we meet are able to fathom our predicament and realize that we have a serious task before us. They get it! We can only pity those that do not and stand up to them for what is right. And believe me, along the way you are going to get ripped into, but one should always consider the source and remain true to your course. Those that persecute will eventually change (remember the compound issue) or they will alienate themselves from the mainstream of the sport and end up being miserable with those few others like themselves. We believe that anything that grows our sport is a good thing. Good for the participants, good for the game and good for the people who make their living from hunting and fishing.

I don't know what to say. He worked on it for 6 months, did what he was told and the deer cooperated. He is also a cop, used to doing those motions. Maybe it was his guide.

You need to get out more.
As I read your post, I immediately thought of a handful of bucks that I would have killed with a crossbow that I never even shot at with my bow.
Drew to early on one and he hung up for what felt like an hour (it was probably more like 2-3 minutes before my bow arm was shaking like a leaf). My 50% letoff didn't help that time .... I had to let down and hope he didn't see me. (Learned a good lesson, too - did you know that you need to reseat your nock when you let down? )
A crossbow would have solved the problem.
Another time, I had a great 8 pointer come in to a grunt call. Straight in to me, at a slow sway necked saunter. Had all the time in the world to set up. I waited for him to get behind a tree and drew....and he blew up. He had seen my shadow as I drew.
Another one that could have been had with a crossbow.
I have others, but the post is getting long.
Off the top of my head, I can think of 5 bucks, including a couple big boys, that I could have shot at with a crossbow that I never got a chance with my real bows. It usually came to drawing or holding, the 2 things that you don't need to do with your xbow.
I guarantee other bowhunters have lots of examples, too.
I am sure that you have your stories, too, datamax .... you are just fibbing to try and make a point.

THAT WHY WE CALL IT HUNTING!!!!!
But I am going with the fact that he had a good, experienced guide that was willing to share one of his special hunting spots!
Nice job! You have created a bowhunter for life!
