How would crossbow hunting negatively affect bowhunting? Example wise. Do you expect shorter seasons or what?

It would certainly effect the relative tranquility that exists currently during archery season.

Logically, it would eventually impact the length of the bow season. Increased harvests in archery season will have the real majority, gun hunters, hopping mad that they're getting cut out of the action. They would be howling, and here in NY, that means almost 800,000 gun hunters howling...pretty loud.

Now you are advocating for those who would miss with a rifle? This is the kind of hunter you are standing up for?

Tell me again about skills.
Okay. I'll tell you a gun isnt easy to pick up and go kill a deer with. Theres much more to it than that. ANd a compound bow and crossbow are MUCh harder than a gun. And a recurve/longbow is MUCH harder than that, and a self bow ever harder still.

Florida has 28,000 bowhunters. NY has 200,000 bowhunters.

Ohio has 200, 000 "archers", with 60% xbow hunters. Extrapolate to our 2 states.

Florida - no big deal, 50,000 total. NY would have over 400,000 total.

You tell me how that would impact the bowhunting in NY state.
Big frickin deal. The vast majority of FL 28,000 are compound shooters - what does that tell you about traditional archery ? Its been replaced with the compound - a very easy to use/shoot bow that people want to buy and be instant 295 shooters at 30 yards. And it works very well - the two season hunter concept that Fred initiated.

It would certainly effect the relative tranquility that exists currently during archery season.
Horse Pucky. I've been hunting in a state for 30 years crossbow legal and its VERY peaceful in archery woods. Damn compounders are more of a problem that crossbow shooters (ATV's and trespassing and poor shooting)

Logically, it would eventually impact the length of the bow season.
Wives tale - its never happened.

Increased harvests in archery season will have the real majority, gun hunters, hopping mad that they're getting cut out of the action. They would be howling, and here in NY, that means almost 800,000 gun hunters howling...pretty loud.
Increased archery hunters ? God, that would be TERRIBLE wouldn't it ? Wait ........ how many millions of archers - millions of 2 season hunters - did the compound bring in ?

Is the compound then "bad" ? Are you suggesting that archery is at its max in numbers ? We cannot handle a single additional archer ?

Are you saying that if next year, 10,000 gun hunters pick up compounds in your state archery season would be cut ? Maybe 20,000 ? C'mon, whats the magical number here ?

There isn't one. You're making it up - aren't you ?

Fired up ?

No, not really. I just cannot help myself in responding to posts made that are based on nothing but science fiction, fantasy, wives tales and regurgetated P&Y Rhetoric when their sole purpose is to mislead people

I live in a crossbow legal state, I've owened them, shot them, hunted with them and shared woods with them. Thats more than 99% of the guys responding here - I think I know a bit more about them than most, don't you ?

They are NOT a negative to archery, no more so than is the compound. I promise you that

ELKINMTCWB - show me where, in any state that has allowed crossbows, that there has been a negative impact. Just one. No one can submit just one piece of negative impact that crossbows have had on archery seasons. Anywhere.

So based on that, and 30+ years of legal crossbows in Arkansas ........... I can say with pretty good certainty that they won't in the future.

Too many hunters ? Isn't that what the compound brings to the archery table ? More hunters ?
Too easy ? Isn't that what the compound brings to the archery table ?

I can see why it is VERY peaceful ... you have almost NO hunters.

You have 27000 bow AND crossbow hunters combined in a state who's area is the same as NY.

NY has 200000 bowhunters alone.

If you cannot or will not understand the difference, you are one dim bulb.

I don't buy into this either. Do you expect crossbow hunters to "pound the woods" in noisy drives? Do you object to the noise of the crossbow? And my best question, ( I saved it for last) Why should someone who wishes to hunt with a primative weapon (yes that includes crossbows) be denied the relative tranquility that exists durring archery season?

Certainly they could drive, with a locked and loded weapon. I doubt it would be super effective, but since I expect that mostly gun hunters will be toting xbows, its a possibility.

No objections to the noise of the crossbow, just the crossbow advocates

It is your best question. Anyone can hunt currently during archery season...if they just get a bow.

Now I'll ask you one -

why won't these guys TRY to hunt with a bow? Why do we NEED xbows at all? Given the fact that they are already illegal in many states, these are the questions that matter.
