data -

(I'm glad you changed the handle back ... everything's right in the world)

What difference would it make? You have your opinion, I have mine. I don't think shooting an xbow requires any ARCHERY skills, like draw, anchor, hold, aim, release, follow through.

Clearly, stick bows are harder than compounds. But at least they require the same skill set.

Crossbows require a gun hunters skill set...point and shoot.

As long as they are kept out of the P&Y book it's fine with me. Although I don't believe the lower minimum scores are justifiable.

thesource - Take it up with Safari Club International. We are using their minimums, because we respect what they do for hunting and the modern hunter. If you wish to know why they are set at the level they are, ask them. Why is it that no matter what the topic, there is always those that P & M about it? Try putting that negative energy into doing something positive for hunting instead of being negative and nasty. No one likes a cry baby.

The nice thing about record books is that you can choose to use them or not use them. In forty-five years of hunting, I have never entered an animal in a record book, although I have taken many that would qualify. It's not my thing. You will never find my name in this one, but there are those who like to see their name in print. To them I say, "Good for you!" I don't waste precious time and energy judging their motives or crying about limits that are too low. Furthermore, I can't believe I am wasting time responding to this negative, childish post. Good bye!

Compounds are sight and pull the trigger too - look at the thread on how that one guy starting shooting really great when he bought a new bow.

You're talking shooting skills - not bowhunting skills. Compounds/crossbows do not hold a candle to what archery skills are really suppose to be

P&Y has become a joke - they are the modern compound records book

Data - it still requires the same skill set to shoot a compound as a recurve...and I should know, since I have both.

It is admittedly more difficult to be consistently accurate with a stick bow. This, in turn, limits the range that we are proficient. Of course, we choose this option ourselves.

That doesn't change the fact that a crossbow requires none of these skills, does it?

Point and shoot, like a gun.

I like your statment. POINT AND SHOOT = xbow. I sure know my xbow can be used by any kid with very very little help.Put the X on the target and pull the trigger. But takes weeks for the same kid to shoot a 15 pound bow 10 yards and hit the target.

They can make all the books they want for xbows. I just know there IS a big difrance in the way the xbow and a bow are used.As I stated any one pushing the xbow has some reasion to push it and it dang sure is NOT to help bow hunting.

You shoot your compound with fingers ? No letoff ? Off the shelf ? Instinctive ? No sights ? No rest ? No gadgets, no pulley or cables or anything like that ?

Of course you do - as do all other compounders because compounds are DESIGNED to be shot with a release and all the other stuff, aren't they ? (by and large)

BTW - Guns are NOT point and shoot. It takes a good ammount of skill to hunt and shoot deer too - ask any of the millions who missed last year in the rifle season !

Compounds hurt archery in every way that crossbows do - and have. Fact

Now you are advocating for those who would miss with a rifle? This is the kind of hunter you are standing up for?

Tell me again about skills.

Florida has 28,000 bowhunters. NY has 200,000 bowhunters.

Ohio has 200, 000 "archers", with 60% xbow hunters. Extrapolate to our 2 states.

Florida - no big deal, 50,000 total. NY would have over 400,000 total.

You tell me how that would impact the bowhunting in NY state.
