RE: ACF ANNOUNCES LAUNCHING OF BIG GAME CROSSBOW RECORD BOOK
Yet some more good points Jay. I just had that though because of what you said.
How would you feel about a overlap season of "archery" and crossbow much like many states have with gun and smokepole? What if the first month and a half of archery were trad and compound bows and the last month and a half were any sort of weapon that launches an arrow or bolt? Would this be a happy medimum that would allow "bow hunters" to keep "their" season while still affording outhers the chance to hunt with other arrow or bolt launching weapons in the relative calm or "bow season"
The issue I have with allowing crossbows in the firearm season only is, it is IMO more difficult to kill an animal that is already skiddish from firearm season. I've killed deer with my bow durring such seasons but I find the hunting more difficult. Deer are pushed here and there and fall out of "normal travel patterns". By forcing xbow hunter to compete with the orange army seems completely unfair to me.
I suppot crossbows and crossbow hunter period. I would be ok if they were given full rights under archery and I would also be ok with an overlap season that still affords them the same quality hunting experience that "we bowhunters" enjoy

RE: ACF ANNOUNCES LAUNCHING OF BIG GAME CROSSBOW RECORD BOOK
See, thats unbelievable to me. Its all about the horns and the size of the buck, isn't it ? Thats truly sad and another nail in the coffin
Why is MY CHOICE to make things harder for myself a nail in the coffin to bowhunting........
BUT YOUR CHOICE to make things harder for yourself - THE REAL WAY TO BOWHUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT IS THE PROBLEM I HAVE WITH YOUR THINKING[:@]
Here's a news flash - its harder to kill a small buck with a recurve than a big buck with a compound. THAT'S why you see what you see. Me ? I'm more proud of my trad killed animals than any of my compound kills - by far.
In a good year I can easily have 10 - 20 young bucks within 20 yds of me in one season...I am going to hit one of em with my stick....................probably more
On a Good year I may get TWO chances at a good buck....maybe
Here is a news flash for you............Shooting a mature buck with a compound IS HARDER than shooting a dink with a stick..........and every time you soapbox about doing it the real way, the hard way, the elitist way............I chuckle.......................thats right a chuck thats chuckling

To me its all about the age of the deer and how hard it is to find em and get em close. For you its all about the weapon and how hard it is to shoot.
Why is MY CHOICE to make things harder for myself a nail in the coffin to bowhunting........
BUT YOUR CHOICE to make things harder for yourself - THE REAL WAY TO BOWHUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
However, you don't want people to have the choice of using a crossbow. Why ?
CALL you on that one.....................NO WAY.................

Want me to prove it ? List the top 100 bucks in the P&Y record book. The top 1000. How many were recurve/trad bow kills ? C'mon, the book has been around for decades longer than compounds have been, right ? Shouldn't there be a lot of top trophies with trad bows ?
There isn't ? Why ?
I'll explain why. B&C records are dominated by rifle kills. Why ? Rifles are easier to use and make the success rate higher for when you DO have that opportunity at a buck of a lifetime - you can make the shot.
Same thing for the P&Y records and the compound.
I rest my case (and chuckle to myself ......... ya'll are sooooooooooooo easy today to spank [8D] )

He's a link from a state news paper regarding crossbows.

I had to laugh at half of the article. The author implies that crossbows make poaching easier because they can more easile be shot from the window of vehicals and goes on to site an investigation that turned up a poaching ring of more then 20 people last year. This is absolutely ridiculous and very similar to blaming a gun for a murder instead of the idiot that pulls the trigger. Although this article was abviously writter left of center I posted it to show the misinformation that is being spread in a desperat attempt to stop the progression of crossbows.

No – its because you are an elitist sticker that has convinced yourself that what you do is the hardest way to bow hunt.
But your wrong………..and as I said…It isn’t my job to show you.
Again……………Keep shooting your stick.........hope you bag a hammer..........and enjoy

No – its because you are an elitist compounder that has convinced yourself that what you do is the hardest way to bow hunt.
That IS why compouders dislike crossbows, isn't it ? They don't think they're "real bows" or they're "too easy"
I'm right - aren't I ?
And again, for the record, I'm all for compounds AND crossbows in archery season. Neither is any worse than the other. And my choice of a recurve isn't the hardest way to bowhunt. Its much harder than a compound or crossbow, but self bowyers take it to a whole 'nuther level !

RE: ACF ANNOUNCES LAUNCHING OF BIG GAME CROSSBOW RECORD BOOK
I asked this in the last "crossbow" thread and I will ask it again........Why the big scare over crossbows being allowed in archery season?
Some of you think the woods will suddenly be filled with gun hunters picking up crossbows......it won't. The main reason why is because as far as I can tell most gun hunters hunt with a firearm for two reasons....1. it's easier and/or 2. they just love guns (that's me)
You see there is way more to bow hunting than the weapon used. No matter if it's a compound, cross or trad bow you STILL need to be close and you still need to set up your shot. Some of you think a crossbow will just shoot it's self. The last time I checked you need to shoulder that weapon and that causes MOVEMENT.
If a deer is walking right at you, (I read that on a post as an example) it will see you if you try to draw on it or shoulder a crossbow. I don't know about you guys but I can pull my 70lb bow back with great ease and very slow if I want or need to, just about as slow as I can shoulder a weapon. If you can't maybe your pulling too much weight?
You guys don't honestly think crossbow shooters are in their stands or stalking with the crossbow constantly shouldered do you? I don't even shoot a crossbow and I know that doesn't happen! So lets stop with the whole "movement" stuff because movement is needed for both. That crossbow needs to get to the shoulder and the hunter needs to move into position. Same as with a compound, that hunter needs to get into position and draw.
I am willing to bet that you will find just as many compound shooters switching to crossbows as you will gun hunters and maybe even more once the uninformed gun hunters realize it's NOT like gun hunting after all. I bet good deals will be had on one season old crossbows for sale.
