Tebbe - Bull 1870 is right what may be right for one person may not be comfortable for you. I have had a xi magnum bow with easton 2016 arrows and I thought that was a sweet bow . Just the other day I picked up a Hoyt Magnatec xt2000 and Beman ICS hunter 400 carbon arrows and these arrows in themselves are real nice. It all what you feel you will be happy with.

Welcome to the board!
When a new bowhunter comes into the shop looking at bows I try to point them to the longer a-t-a bow with a high brace hight and plenty of let off. These features make a bow fun to shoot and more forgiving on a bad shot.

My advice wold be to go to your local pro shops and get fitted for, draw lenght, draw weight, fingers or mechanical, and so on.

You may save a buck or two from a mail order but if you are just starting out you need some help with your set-up.

As for which brand, Most major manufacters have good mid range starter bows and I would shoot as many as I could.

You will probally get as many recomendations as there are brands out there and I know everyone thinks THERE bow is the ONLY bow. It is, but only for them. I love my High Country Ultra Pro but someone else may have tryed one and wrote it off as pure junk. For them it was.

Get a bow YOU like, not what I shoot or this buddy of that pal shoots.

Go luck and welcome to the adiction
SF

I'm also a first time bowhunter and just bought a Jennings Buckmaster G2. Its half the price of the big name bows and extremely well made. I've had it for two days and I'm shooting 3 inch groups at 20 yards. My buddy recommended it and he has shot half a dozen P & Y bucks as well as several record class moose and bear. Its hard to argue with success! With the money you save you can buy all the other gear you need and still come out ahead.

TEBBE,

I AGREE WITH SOME OF THE OTHERS. YOU HAVE TO FIND ONE THAT FITS YOU AND YOUR NEEDS. AS FOR ME, BOWTECH ITS THE VERY BEST.IVE SHOT A LOT OF OTHERS MATHEWS, PSE, MARTIAN JUST TO NAME A FEW. THEY DONT STAND UP TO THE BOWTECH. I OWN TWO, THE MIGHTY MITE AND THE PRO 38. I AM SURE THEY HAVE ONE IN THERE LINE THAT WILL FIT YOU.THE STALKER IS A GOOD STARTER BOW, AND ITS NOT TO EXPENSIVE.MY FRIEND JUST BOUGHT ONE AND HE GOT IT SET UP WITH EVERYTHING YOU WOULD NEED FOR ABOUT $350.IF YOU WANT THE BEST HUNTING BOW IMO SPEND THE EXTRA CASH AND GET THE MIGHTY MITE, BUT ITS YOUR DECISION. GIVE THIS COMPANY A TRY BEFORE YOU BUY. THERE STAFF IS THE BEST. I HAVE NOTHING BUT GOOD WORDS ABOUT THE DEALER THAT I USE. GOOD LUCK HUNTING.

I didn't like the Bowtech bows at all. I would give the Matthews and Hoyt bows a try, they are the best on the market. I agree though that if you just want a bow that will kill deer nearly all the major manufacturers make a fairly decent product that will accomplish your goal. Assuming you do your part that is...
