I couln't agree more as a fellow Minnesotan, WE need to copy what works like what Iowa has for seasons and what Wisconsin is doing with earn a buck. Both are working well for them, they could also work well for us. There is too much B.S. trying to recreate things that may or may not work to improve the deer heards, I'm in favor of a copy what works kind of mentality.

I'm from Minnesota and I think our deer herd is being mismanaged in that the population continues to rise beyond optimal levels and buck to doe ratios are far from normal.
Too many hunters still refuse to shoot a doe. If EAB or extra doe only seasons dont work then I'd think a buck tag lottery (like the doe permits from years ago) would be more beneficial to reducing the doe population.

I’m from Minnesota too and would love antler restrictions. But, I think us bowhunters who may be used to passing up on smaller bucks will have a much different opinion than the majority of deer hunters in Minnesota. Most Minnesota deer hunters are happy enough just to shoot a deer. That’s what is going to make changing the rules the hardest.
I really do not like earn a buck. I think Wisconsin dumped it for this year. Too many people have to pass on big bucks. Imagine if it happened to you… Buck of a lifetime walks up to you and you can’t shoot it, you've hunted for the last 10 years trying to harvest a py'er and YOU CAN'T SHOOT HIM! That would chap my hide.

I like what the DNR has done here in GA. Antler restricitons are done on a county by county basis. In other words, the "residents" of each county gets to vote on whether or not they want antler restictions. Some counties have a "4pts on one side rule, others have a minimum 15 inch spread rule," and the majority still have no restictions at all.
I've hunted all over the state, but the majority of my hunting has been done in two neighboring counties (Heard and Troup). 3 years ago, Troup county imposed the "4 pts on one side rule." Prior to the rule, the populations and health of the deer were pretty similar. However, since the rule was imposed, I've seen a much impoved health of the deer (bucks and does) in troup county. And this past year, I noticed the ratio was better, the rut was more intense, and the bucks were bigger. Those are just my thoughts.
