RE: "There is MORE to a trophy: Than the SIZE of the Rack."
Both are trophies in their own right.
the first is a "trophy" in terms of score
the second is a "trophy" in terms of dedication, motivation, persistance, difficulty, etc.
"Trophy" is a very subjective term and means different things to different people.
Assuming both hunters with each deer were standing side by side, I personally wouldn't even acknowledge the guy from TX but would be congradulating, etc the young girl.
On the other hand, an antler collector/enthusiest might not acknowledge the young girl....
Like I said, it means different things to different people.

I personally get more satisfaction from a hunt and vaule the animal more if I've done the leg work. From scouting to stand location selection to patterning the animal you want to arrow. Don't get me wrong a 190" deer will have me needing a new ticked regardless of how it ended up in front of me but the same animal would mean more if it were taken from the fruits of my labor.
In the two diffrent scenario you mentioned, both are trophies as DC pointed out but for diffrent reasons. If I have my choice between a guided hunt that I bag a 160" deer or a do it yourself hunt where I tag a 135" deer I'd take the do it yourself all day long. I'd get much more satisfaction from it personally.

Yes obviously 2 different things. 190 buck is a trophy class animal, it was just taken under means by which some wouldn't care to do. A 70# BB is not a trophy class animal, but was taken under such circumstances that turn it and the hunt into a trophy for the hunter.
For me personally, shooting a doe in some of the places I hunt, is not a big deal and not a "trophy" to me. It's FOOD. Now picking stands, passing on smaller bucks and trying to get one of the nicer bucks in my areas, does equal a trophy to me, if and when I accomplish it. Whether it scored 115 or 145.
If I hunted different areas, those standards would probably change.

To me a trophy is in the eye of the person taking it. To me it's all in what you get out of it. A lot of people don't consider my does and small bucks as trophies but each and every deer that I have had the previlige to kill has been a trophy.

I agree, score wise it is a trophy. but I like to guide myself and do what I can to take a good animal. I am a stout supporter of taking does. I love to hunt DEER not just bucks. I have taken some nice bucks with my bow, trophies in their own right, but nothing big. I hope to change that one day though. I am going to ohio on a self guided hunt, and I hope to shoot something good there. if not a good buck, I'll shoot a doe. I think does can be just as hard to hunt as bucks. especially if you target a specific animal. I figure what ever you perceive as a trophy, can only be looked at as that.

This is a very common debate. I personally think that we often fail to distinguish between taking trophy animals and having memorable experiences. In my opinion a 70# nubber is not a trophy. However, the girl's experience was memorable and should be cherished timelessly. I don't regard the first buck that I shot as a trophy. It was a yearing, snaggle-horned 5 pointer. But I do cherish the memory. It's something I'll never forget.
A few years back I shot a massive 11 pointer that scored 148". It's a trophy by any right, but more significantly it's a cherished and memorable experience, which is a trophy in its own right. Not all deer can be trophies, but any memory can be regarded as such.

I've shot several bucks, one of them was an 8 pointer with my bow.
BUT, last fall I shot a 185# doe with a rifle. Just something about it makes the doe more of a trophy for me.

Very good point, never thought of it like that, but you are correct
